IIM-C, IIT-K and IIT-M to offer joint program on manufacturing leadership

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C), the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) and IIT Madras (IIT-M) have come together to offer an executive postgraduate program titled ‘Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing’ (PGPEX – VLM).

This program will be launched in August 2007, and the course fees will be around Rs 5 lakh. The PGPEX-VLM will be supported by the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the industry.

The program will include course work at IIM Calcutta, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras for 32 weeks; this will be followed by industry internship for 13 weeks and industry visits in India and abroad for 7 weeks.

According to IIM-C, the program will involve development of leadership and management skills together with cutting edge technology awareness and proficiency. Completion of the PGPEX–VLM will lead to the awarding of a Postgraduate Diploma in Management for Executives in Manufacturing.’

The program is open for engineers with work experience of 5 years in the manufacturing sector. According to IIM-C, the selection of the applicants will be based on academic record, GMAT or GRE scores (or a special aptitude test), work experience and employers’ recommendations, followed by a personal interview.
