MBA students expect Placements 2010 to be much better than last year

The tsunami of recession is over. Once again we can now see the growth graph moving towards the upwards direction. India Inc. is truly in upbeat mood, and with this very encouraging and promising change the MBA student community is also dreaming big.

There is no room for pessimism for the young budding managers, ready to rock the business world.

To capture the sentiments in India’s top rung MBA schools vis-à-vis placements for 2010, MBAUniverse.com with its research partner Synovate has conducted the third edition of annual ‘MBAUniverse.com Career Aspirations of MBAs Survey – 2010’. This survey reveals insights into the dreams of MBA students with respect to their final placements in the year 2010.

The findings of the survey are indeed a reason to be happy. Unlike the year 2008 when there was widespread sadness over the global economic scenario in the MBA student community with the downfall of major financial firms globally, this year the thoughts on the placement scenario are upbeat with improvements observed in varied sectors of Indian as well as global economy.

According to survey findings, MBA students are excited with the upward turn in India’s economy. To the question “What are your expectations from MBA Placements 2010, when compared with 2009?” 90% of the MBAs answered “Much better than 2009”. This truly indicates the high level of optimism amongst the MBAs.

The summer placements at IIMs that took place in the last months of 2009 also confirm the upbeat trend in India’s economy, which is allowing the MBAs to dream big. Leading financial firms, FMCG companies, global consulting firms gave attractive offers to the students at the recently concluded summer placements. The final placements that will take place in 2010 look brighter.

Salary expectations
On the salary expectation front the MBA students want to make the most of the good times in Indian economy. Of all the MBAs polled, 60% of them expect an annual salary between Rs. 11 to 15 lakhs. There are more big dreamers who expect more. These big dreamers, 20%, expect annual salary between Rs. 16 and 20 lakhs.

Survey also highlights the central position of India in the new post-crisis world order. Of all the MBAs polled a very high percentage of 77% ticked on India as their preferred work location. In the choice list of MBAs, Europe and US are tied on the number two spot, at 12%. 

The MBAUniverse.com Career Aspirations of MBAs Survey – 2010 was conducted across top 25 leading MBA schools of India, which include IIM Calcutta; IIM Lucknow; IIM Indore; IIM Kozhikode; Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi; SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai; IIFT New Delhi; Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar; Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai; MDI Gurgaon; Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi; Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay and many others. 500 second year students from these schools participated in the survey.
