Salary up by 20% at IIT Mumbai's SJMSOM

The recruiters increased to 68 at Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) Placements 2010. A total of 108 offers were made. Highest annual compensation stood at Rs. 21 lakh, whereas the average annual compensation was Rs. 12.31 lakh.

The number of recruiters increased to 68 at Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) in Placements 2010. A total of 108 offers were made to the pass-out graduates. The average number of offers per student was 1.3. The highest domestic annual salary stood at Rs. 21 lakh pa, while the average salary being offered was Rs. 12.31 lakh pa, thus recording an increase of 20% in the average salary. The median annual compensation stood at Rs. 11.2 lakh pa. Around 13% pre placements offers were made.

Multiple offers were received from consulting firms like Deloitte, Accenture, Feedback Ventures and Global eProcure. Cadburys and BHEL offered leadership roles. Pre-Placement offers came from FMCG majors like Reckitt Benckiser, Colgate Palmolive, Johnson & Johnson and Coca Cola. Amazon was the first time recruiter to participate with SCM profile. The Infornation Management Leadership Profile (IMLP) was offered by GE.

Global eProcure made the statement, “With the rigorous academic program and highly rated industry interaction schedule, SJMSOM provides the right blend of theoretical and practical competency to stand out in the consulting world”.

MNCs like Kerry Foods and Hygiene Research Institute offered positions in SCM and Finance Domain. In traditional domains, Energy, CDM and pharmaceuticals recruited students offering them high salaries and incentives. The Entrepreneurship aspirants got the opportunity of starting their own ventures.

Here are the sectoral trends.

Finance:

JP Morgan Chase, Nomura, HSBC, YES Bank, MSCI Barra, ICICI Bank, SBI Caps, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Irevna offered profiles like Investment Banking, M&A, Corporate & Institutional Banking, International Banking, Risk Management, Corporate Finance, Equity research, Project Advisory and Structured Finance to approximately 20% of the graduating students.

Consulting:

Around 26% of the batch opted for consulting roles with leading consulting firms that included Deloitte, Accenture, Avalon, Bristlecone, Feedback Ventures and IMRB, offering diverse profiles in Business Strategy, Business Advisory, Technology Integration, Operations, Supply Chain Management, Energy Advisory, Market Research and Analytics. The Placement Process became more significant by Global eProcure offering its SCM profile and Business Performance Services profile by KPMG.

FMCG:

Johnson & Johnson made multiple offers for its operations profile. Reckitt Benckiser dominated the Marketing domain. P&G, Coca Cola, Colgate Palmolive, Marico, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Cadburys were among the other recruiters who selected the best of the lot.

Manufacturing:

Companies like ABB, RPG, Tata Motors, UB Group, Coal India and Cummins made offers for their marketing and operations profiles. In the area of General Management, BHEL & SCI offered leadership profiles.

Technology:

Varied lateral profiles that ranged from Business Analyst to Project Management were offered by the IT majors like Cognizant, KPIT Cummins, Wipro, Infosys, Ocwen etc. The students of SOM were given positions in its unique Information management Leadership program (IMLP). Close to 19% of the graduating batch favored profiles in Systems and IT domain, being offered by ANZ Grindlays and EXL.  The global e-commerce giant Amazon recruited the graduates for its Supply Chain Management (SCM) profile.

Infrastructure:

The companies from the infrastructure sector, including Idea Cellular, Lodha Group, SCI and Coal India, offered multiple profiles like General Management, analytics and infrastructure advisory. Energy advisors were recruited by Feedback Ventures.
