UK based University of Leeds Business School signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta for joint management training programme on May 23, 2007.

The partnership will enable students of the Postgraduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX) at IIM-C to spend five weeks in the UK as a part of the annual international immersion programme.

Andrew Lock dean of University of Leeds Business School (Lubs) said, “We are singing this agreement to further its management-training programme for the Indian management students. The five-week Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX) would comprise business activities in Europe and individual projects of corporate houses.”

This international immersion programme provides IIM students the opportunity to work in a group in cross-cultural environments and address complex business issues. Every year some students would be chosen from IIM-C to undergo this programme in Britain. Said, Andrew Lock, “Fifteen students from IIMC will undergo an intensive course in business management at Leeds University this June.”

Students will have to fulfill certain criteria. They will be chosen on the basis of strong recruitment record. The Andrew Lock said, “They must have strong recruitment records before joining this management programme in Britain. In the first week students would be given knowledge about business in Europe and for the last four weeks they will work on individual corporate projects.”

IIMC is the second IIM, which has tied up with the Leeds University Business Schools for the exchange programme, while the first one was IIM-A (Ahmedabad). Said Andrew Lock, “We have already started this programme with IIM-A last year and we have got very good response from the students. But now we are trying to cooperate with all six IIMs in India to start this business education programme here.”

'We would also discuss some topics like faculty exchange and students exchange between these two educational institutions and conducting joint research programmes,' he said.

Leeds Business School has a broad portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes in business, marketing, human resource management, public relations, strategy and international business.
