Delhi based Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM) has introduced some new papers in the areas of Finance, System and (OB)/Human Resource Management (HRM) for the new academic session starting in June.

With this, the institute has also made industrial visits compulsory, with an emphasis on socially-oriented projects. The classes for the two-year full time Post Graduate Program in Management (PGDM) 2007-09 batch of 120 students commenced on June 11.

The institute organized an ‘orientation program’ to welcome the new batch of first year PGDM students. Commenting on the nature of program, an LBSIM official told MBAUniverse.com, “This program is to help the students to make up their deficiencies in subjects like Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, IT and Statistics.” This has been introduced for the first year PGDM students as a pilot project. According to him, “Various modules based on the stream of a student at the graduate level have been designed for this purpose for a period of one week.”

The institution’s decision to add new papers in the areas of Finance, System and OB/HRM is the result of feedbacks from recruiters, alumni and representatives of the industry. Said the official, “These papers have been introduced on the basis of feedback received from our recruiters, alumni and representatives of the industry.”

There will also be an induction program for second year PGDM students on June 18.

LBSIM’s two year full-time Post Graduate Program in Management consists of six trimesters. In the three trimesters during the first year, the focus is primarily on basic courses. According to LBSIM, “It is to build a foundation of conceptual and analytical skills required for more specialized study in various functional areas to be pursued in the second year of the program.”

The students have to take 21 courses along with Personal and Interpersonal Effectiveness and Summer Training during the year. The students may also have the opportunity to learn a foreign language as an optional course during the first year. In the second year, during the fourth, fifth and sixth trimesters, students have to opt for 11 electives over and above 4 compulsory courses. This enables them to pursue in-depth learning in the area of their specialization. The electives cover a minimum of two functional areas, which equip LBSIM graduates with multiple functional skills.

LBSIM was established by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Educational Trust in Delhi, and is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Ministry of Human Resources Development. It offers the Two Year Full-Time Post Graduate Program in Management, the Three Year Part-Time Post Graduate Program in Management and the Three Year Full-Time Program in Master of Computer Applications.
