The MBAUniverse.com Rankings 2010 has revealed that the two biggest corporate hubs of India, the Delhi NCR and Mumbai, have proved to be the high-growth centres for quality conscious B-schools. The analysis of the top 25 B-schools in the rankings has divulged that these two centres are home to maximum number of top league B-schools of India.

There are five top league B-schools in Delhi, led by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT); Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi; International Management Institute (IMI). In the extended Delhi National Capital Region, there are three top B-schools: Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon; Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad; Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida.

In Mumbai there are 7 top league B-schools, led by: National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE); S P Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR); Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS); Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), University of Mumbai.

60% of the top B-schools are located in these urban areas of the West and the North. While 32% top B-schools are based in the Delhi NCR combined, 28% belong to Mumbai alone.

The B-schools that have been established in the Delhi NCR and Mumbai have been able to build a proud-worthy legacy courtesy the highly competitive environment and the strong industry-institute linkage.

Other cities

Ahmedabad is also leading with 2 top B-schools in the city: IIM Ahmedabad and MICA. Surprisingly Bengaluru and Kolkata, the two other big cities, lag behind in providing green grounds to aspiring B-schools. The two cities have one top B-school each, IIM-B and IIM-C. The other cities that have one top B-school each are: Bhubaneswar (XIMB), Jamshedpur (XLRI), Manipal (TAPMI), Kozhikode (IIM-K), Indore (IIM-I).

Cities like Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad do not even have a saving grace with none of the B-schools from these cities able to find mention in the top league of B-schools. It obviously points to the need for these B-schools to gear up on the front of faculty, placements, infrastructure and student selection.
