The six Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) have announced that the all-important Common Admission Test (CAT) for the academic year 2008-10 will be held on November 18.

The announcement was made by advertisements released in national media yesterday. The test will be conducted in 23 centers in India. The announcement of CAT date is sure to add urgency and impetus to the preparations of over 200,000 aspirants vying for coveted seats at IIMs and other prestigious institutes.  

The CAT Bulletins, which contains application form can be purchased from today till August 16 from select bank branches, and in special cases from IIMs directly by August 20. The last of submission of CAT forms is September 8.

Highlighting the importance of CAT scores, the announcement says, “Common Admission Test conducted by the IIMs is an important input in the admission process and is primarily the basis of shot listing candidates for the second round of admission process which is based on group discussion and/or personal interview.” It adds, “The candidates should note that it is important for them to perform well relative to other candidates in each of the three sections of the test as the scores of each section and the overall score are used to short list the candidates for the second round and may also be used for final ranking also.”

IIMs have also launched dedicated CAT website www.CATiim.in to guide students thru the admission process. Thru this websites students can know their status on receipt of their admission form, CAT scores after the exam, shot listing status and their final section. Aspirants surely will bookmark this website on their computers.
