Days after the CAT 2007 Bulletin was made public and MBAUniverse.com ran a story on ten institutes missing from CAT 2007’s list of participating institutes,

two leading management institutes – Mumbai-based SP Jain Institute of Management & Research and Ahmedabad-based Nirma University of Science & Technology’s Institute of Management -- have accepted that “delays” at their end resulted in their missing out the CAT Bulletin’s official deadline. They however have informed MBAUniverse.com that they are part of CAT 2007, and their names will appear in subsequent CAT announcements. “We are taking up the matter with IIM to correct the same in future publication and notifications,” said SP Jain’s admission officer Prof Parimal Merchant.

Thanking MBAUniverse.com for pointing out their omission, Prof Parimal Merchant emailed: “We are very much part of the CAT 2007. Thank you for drawing our attention to the matter.” Prof Merchant says they missed the CAT IIM deadline due to “courier delay and tight bulletin printing schedule of IIMs.” Nirma’s Institute of Management had a similar explanation for the slip-up.

Responding to our email seeking clarification, Dr Upinder Dhar, Director, Institute of Management, Nirma University, said, “I would like to clarify that our Institute is very much using the CAT score. The CAT Bulletin is not carrying our name by mistake.”

MBAUniverse.com readers will remember that this portal ran a story on Monday, July 16, saying that over 100 B-schools are participating in CAT 2007 to be held on November 18. However, 10 B-schools including SP Jain Institute and Nirma Institute are not part of this year’s list. MBAUniverse.com then sought a clarification from both IIMs and the respective institutes. Both SP Jain Institute and Nirma Institute responded with written statements to MBAUniverse.com. At the time of publishing this story, on July 19, the IIMs are yet to respond. The CAT Bulletin on the official website www.Catiim.in does not carry the names of these two institutes as part of the list of participating institutes.

Nirma Institute’s Dy. Registrar Mr G. Ramachandran Nair also offered a reason for missing out from CAT Bulletin. “Thank you for bringing to our notice that the name of our Institute has not been listed in the CAT Bulletin published by the IIMs. I wish to clarify that our association with the IIMs for CAT continues and we have been given the privilege of using CAT score for admission of the students in our MBA (FT) Program for the next batch also,” he said.

Mr Nair added, “Our name was missed out due to a slight delay in receiving our communication in this matter by the IIMs. We have been informed that by the time they received our communication, the CAT Bulletin had gone for printing and therefore, they could not include our Institute’s name in the list. However, it was informed that our Institute’s name would be incorporated in their website soon.”

According to CAT Bulletin 2007, ten B-schools that don’t feature in CAT 2007 list but were part of last year’s Bulletin, are: Asian School of Business, Trivandrum; Cosmic Business School, New Delhi; IBAT School of Management, Bhubaneshwar; Institute of Management Studies & Research, Vidyanagar; Institute of Management, Nirma University of Science & Technology, Ahmedabad; Institute of Science & Management, Department of Management, IISM Campus, Ranchi; S.P.Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai; School of Communication & Management Studies, Cochin and Techno India Group, Kolkata.
