CAT 2011: IIMs to give good weightage to CAT score for 2012 merit list

MBAUniverse.com had brought to you the news recently that the IIMs are rolling out their admissions criteria for 2012-14 batch admissions. The IIMs which have recently announced the admissions criteria for next year’s admissions are: IIM Calcutta, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Rohtak, IIM Raipur, IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode.

Today’s special article talks about the weightage that will be given by the IIMs to the CAT 2011 entrance exam score while preparing the final merit list for admissions.

The admissions criteria document recently published by these IIMs mention the weightage that will be assigned to the CAT 2011 scores, GD, PI, Writing Ability Test (WAT), Past Academic Performance (PAP) and Work Experience (WE) for final selection.

As you are right now preparing for the CAT 2011 exam, you should know which are the IIMs that will give more weightage to CAT 2011 scores and which IIMs will give more weightage to the other factors. This will help you in planning the post CAT result admission strategy.

Let us look at the weightage that will be given by the IIMs to the CAT 2011 scores for admissions 2012 final merit list (this list includes data of only 6 IIMs as other 7 IIMs are still to announce their admission criteria):

It is very clear from the above table that CAT 2011 scores will be given good weightage in the final selections. IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Rohtak, IIM Raipur are giving a high weightage of 50% to the CAT 2011 score. Even the 38% weightage given by IIM Lucknow and 35% weightage given by IIM Calcutta matter a lot.

The CAT 2011 score will surely not be a mere shortlisting tool for second round at IIMs, but in reality will be an important factor that will decide your name in the final merit list.

So now you should gear up well for the CAT 2011 exam and score well, but always keep in your mind that the final merit list will be prepared based on a total score of 100, which will also include your score in GD, PI, WAT, and the score given to you for your PAP and WE.
