Updated on September 10, 2007
The Outlook B-School Survey, conducted by research organization Cfore, is sure to bring cheers at the six Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs).

Not only have the older siblings IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C and IIM-L bagged the coveted top four rankings, younger IIMs too have moved up. IIM-Indore (IIM-I) has, for the first time, entered the overall top-10 league table (it’s ranked no 9), while IIM Kozhikode (IIM-K) has moved up seven ranks, to get the 12th slot on this ranking! It was ranked at no 19 in last year’s survey. However, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has lost out on this year’s ranking – it is ranked at no 13; last year, it was ranked no 6. These results are based on MBAUniverse.com Analysis of Outlook B-school Survey rankings for 2007 and 2006. (See detailed comparison table below).

Hyderabad-based ICFAI Business School too should be disappointed with its performance in this survey. It is ranked no 14, against no 10 last year. Similarly, IIT Mumbai’s SJ Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) has dropped four ranks and is at no 16.

According to Outlook-Cfore survey data, apart from the IIMs, Mumbai-based NMIMS, XLRI Jamshedpur and IMT Ghaziabad have performed well to move up the B-school rankings ladder. NMIMS has moved up by four ranks and is at no 10. XLRI has managed to inch past MDI Gurgaon to claim 5th rank in the survey. It has dramatically improved its total scores.

According to Outlook and Cfore, Survey is based on responses by 216 B-schools who participated in the survey. The rankings are based on six parameters: Intellectual Capital and Faculty, Placement Performance, Industry interface, Infrastructure & Facilities, International Linkage and Recruiter’s Satisfaction Survey. Intellectual Capital and Placement Performance were given the highest weightages.

The survey has classified B-Schools into four categories: Government/ PSU B-Schools, Private B-Schools, University Departments and Sectoral B-Schools.

While the Outlook B-school Survey 2007 doesn’t provide overall rankings across the four B-school categories, MBAUniverse.com compiled the Overall Rankings by using total scores of each institute available in the survey. Our overall ranking table (as below) is based on ‘Total Scores’ across Government/PSU, Private and Sectoral B-Schools in Outlook Surveys 2007 & 2006. Total score data was not available for University departments based B-schools.
