Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad (MICA) has announced that it will be accepting XAT scores besides CAT and GMAT scores for admissions to its 20th batch of PG diploma in management (communications) program.

On the official website of XAT, MICA has been named as one of 106 institutes accepting XAT scores for admissions to their respective management programmes for the academic session 2013-2015.

Till last year, MICA used to consider only CAT (for Indian nationals) and GMAT (for International applicants) for its admissions through MICAT.

Prof Anita Basalingappa, admission chairperson at MICA, said, “With our decision to consider XAT scores for admissions this year, we will be able to add to the diversity in the pool of students who earlier came only through CAT.”

The institute, however, said CAT/XAT/GMAT scores will be just one component in the selection process. “There is no cut-off based on the scores attained in these entrance tests. All students appearing for any of the three exams shall be eligible for MICAT,” she said.
The selection process for the PGDM (communications) involves two steps.

In the first stage, aspirants are required to take MICA Admissions Test (MICAT).  All eligible candidates who apply to MICA through CAT/XAT/GMAT irrespective of their scores will be called for MICAT. The MICAT written test includes creativity potential, general awareness, descriptive and psychometric sections. MICAT is scheduled to be held in March 2013 in various centres including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai.

The second stage comprises group exercise (GE) and personal interview (PI). Candidates are invited for group exercise and personal interview to MICA campus based on their performance in MICAT and CAT/XAT/GMAT.

According to the institute, quantitative and verbal sections from CAT/XAT/GMAT will be given 20 per cent weightage each in this stage.
