S P Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai, has announced additional 36 seats for persons of Indian origin (PIOs) for admission to its PGDM programme for the 2013-15 batch.

“This year, the institute has received an approval from the AICTE for additional 36 seats to admit persons of Indian origin, holding PIO cards as per the scheme of the ministry of home affairs to the PGDM program,” said Prof Abbasali Gabula, deputy director of external relations at SP Jain Institute of Management Research. Foreign nationals, NRI and overseas citizens of India (OCIs) are also allowed to apply for the general pool of 240 seats.

The institute on September 5 announced its online application for admission to its two-year full-time PGDM (equivalent to MBA) program. The institute accepts scores of Common Admissions Test (CAT), Xavier’s Admission Test (XAT) and GMAT for shortlisting candidates for the PGDM program. While CAT 2012 and XAT 2013 scores are required, this year onwards, GMAT scores of 2010, 2011 or 2012 will also be accepted.

According to SPJIMR admission in-charge, the admissions procedure focuses on consistency of academic and extra-curricular performance throughout education and work life of students. Shortlisting of applicants for interview is done by the score-based and profile-based methods of selection.

While the score-based selection gives weightage to high cut-off scores in entrance exams, profile-based method analyses an applicant's achievements including academic, extra-curricular and work experience along with scores in the entrance exams. However, a minimum qualifying score of 85 percentile in CAT or XAT, or 680 in GMAT is a must, below which an applicant with a profile-based call is not eligible to appear for the interview.

SPJIMR offers opportunities of international exposure to its students. Foreign internships are offered to SPJIMR students by IESEG, France; ESB, Reutlingen, Germany; and Cornell, USA. The institute also has tie-ups for student exchange programs with Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, European Business School- Germany, Thammasat University-Thailand, ESCP- France, National University of Singapore, BEM- France, John F Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University Luxembourg, Lancaster University, Tel Aviv University, Universiti Sains Malaysia and University of Southern California, Marshall School.
