Despite the buzz about economic slowdown, good pre-placement offers are being given to students of various management schools, indicating a good hiring season ahead. International Management Institute (IMI) Delhi has kicked off this placement season on a very upbeat note with the highest pre-placement package of Rs 13.5 lakh being offered by the RPG Group.

So far, the college has been offered 14 pre-placement offers (PPOs) and the number of pre-placement interviews (PPIs) stands at 16, both higher compared with the previous year. More PPOs and PPIs are expected to pour in as it is just the beginning of the placement season. Another interesting point is that PPOs have come from major players across sectors.

“Pre-placement offers have seen an upward trend over the last year with nearly 90 per cent of students converting pre-placement interviews into full-fledged offers. Some of the major names for PPOs this year are RPG Enterprises, Aviva, Capgemini, Asian Paints and Perfetti van Melle,” informed the placement team at IMI.

According to the placement team, “Slowdown is definitely a factor affecting B-School placements. However, this does not equally affect all the sectors of the industry. The verticals that rely heavily on outsourcing are feeling the pinch more.”

According to the committee responsible for placement, the strategy of IMI is to have a mixed basket of industries so as to minimize the impact of the slowdown. To give an example, the chemical industry has positive growth estimates for the financial year and this will have to be supported by substantial human capital. So, the idea is not to get bogged down but to focus on new fronts.

It mentioned that during the year-ago period, the job market witnessed the similar bearish outlook. Despite these obstacles, the final placement scenario for IMI was largely successful. Forty-nine companies visited the campus to hire a batch of 152 students and 115 of them were from the PGDM program and the rest were from PGDHRM, the institute’s dedicated HR program.
