Get a hang of the patterns and types of questions in each of the ensuing exams. Take as many relevant mock tests as possible: Vinayak Kudva, product head, IMS Learning.
CAT 2012, the 21-day exam for the 13 IIMs and over 150 B-schools across India is over. This year, 2,14,068 candidates took the test. If you are among CAT takers, you must be thinking on the next action plans that can fulfill your MBA dreams.

Gear up for upcoming exams: The months of November, December and January will see a flurry of MBA entrance exams. These are: IRMA on November 11, IIFT 2012 on November 25, SNAP on December 16, and XAT on January 6, 2013. You should prepare for these exams specifically. “Get a hang of the patterns and types of questions in each of the ensuing exams. Since these exams are paper-pencil-based, you need to practise taking tests in this particular format. Take as many relevant mocks as possible,” Vinayak Kudva, product head, IMS Learning, said.

Prepare for general awareness: General awareness figures in all the exams mentioned above. Preparing for the section will not only help you sail through the MBA entrance exams like IRMA, IIFT, SNAP, XAT, etc, but will also help crack the GD & PI rounds of B-schools you will get calls from. “The GA preparation is not a matter of a few days. You cannot browse through GK books just before the exams and get through. It should be a regular process,” said Arks Srinivas, CEO, VistaMind Education.

Start preparing for GD, PI & essay writing: You will start getting calls for GD, PI & essay writing right after the results to be declared in January or February. You should spend at least three-four months for the preparation process. “It is very important for you to have the answers ready for basic questions like ‘Why MBA?’ If you wait for the CAT results, it will be too late to start preparing for GD, PI and essay writing,” says Srinivas.

Apply to B-schools: The top 100 B-schools have announced the admission process or are on the verge of doing the same for the academic year 2013-15. Make a list of the B-schools you want to apply and check the details of the application process. “You should have a look at the B-schools who are conducting the admission process and apply. But make sure that you apply for a reputed B-school which will offer you quality MBA program and placement,” said Kudva.
