International Management Institute (IMI), the country’s first corporate sponsored business school, is organizing the International Conference on Banking and Finance (BFSCON) in association with ESCP Europe, which was founded in Paris in 1819. The three-day event was inaugurated on December 13.

The event offers an ideal medium for policy makers, academicians, researchers and practitioners from different countries to share their knowledge, views, concerns and research findings on a common platform. The theme of the conference is ‘Changing paradigm for financial and banking sector’.

Director general of IMI and patron of BFSCON 2012, Dr Pritam Singh, said, “With the increased level of globalization, the importance of financial institutions has grown; but a number of global risks has emerged at the same time. The goal of the International Conference on Banking and Finance is to promote the exchange of ideas and experience between India and other countries. IMI is committed towards undertaking such internationally-relevant endeavors for enlightening participants to manage and lead in an increasingly global business environment.”

The eminent personalities who shared their ideas and vision on the first day of the conference were Dr Dipak Dasgupta, principal economic adviser, ministry of finance, government of India; Ms Usha Ananthasubramanian, executive director, Punjab National Bank; and Mr K B Shankar, senior manager – financial institutions, group risk, HSBC Holdings.

A variety of issues such as the changing paradigm for financial sector regulations, risk management in banks, the emergence of new financial intermediaries, product innovations, innovation in payment mechanisms, financial management practices, corporate governance and risk mitigation techniques are being discussed at the conference.
