SJMSOM (IIT B) Avenues 07: Day 1 sees discussions on entrepreneurship; competition held

Day one of Annual International Business Festival Avenues 07, held at Shailesh J Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) at IIT Bombay, saw panel discussion on entrepreneurship and several management games where teams from leading institutes participated.

Prof. C. Amarnath, a member Sine Governing Board, IIT Bombay spoke on Entrepreneurship during 'Navonmesh', the Entrepreneurial competition. He emphasized on the importance of management at the core of new ventures and start up companies. He also provided insights about how the incubation centers like SINE work and how government is taking initiatives in encouraging budding entrepreneurs.

Emphasising on clarity in planning, Prof. Amarnath said, "The clarity in the planning and management of the idea plays very important role in Entrepreneurship." He concluded his speech with an address to management students to join hands with technologies in order to gain strengths of both innovation and entrepreneurship.

A Panel discussion on entrepreneurship followed. Ashank Desai, Founder and Non-Executive Director of Mastek Software; Kunwar Sachdev, CEO of Su-Kam Power Systems Limited; Pravin Gandhi, the managing partner of SEED Fund and Rajeev Samant, CEO of Sula vineyards participated in the discussions. The common theme running across the speakers was the entrepreneur's endless passion. 

Paper competition 'Jantar Mantar' was organised in collaboration with IBM. Overall theme was the future of IT industry in India the participants were asked to make papers presentations on topics like 'Prospects of IT products start-ups in India' and 'IT for SMEs'. The first prize was bagged by Bhargavi Patel from S P Jain Institute of Management and second prize was won by IMT Ghaziabad team. The first and second prize was Rs. 15,000 & 10,000 respectively. According to SJM SOM, 60 teams registered for the event and 5 teams were short-listed for the final presentations.  

'Google Lounge' was an informal contest based on the software Google Trends where participants had to do a reverse search on the clues given on the words or terms searched. Multiple teams from several departments of IIT B and other colleges took part in it. Team from IIT B won the first prize.
