Top tier Indian B-schools need to recognize global Indian companies that are blossoming in their own backyard, before the international B-schools do.

That's the curt message from Vineet Nayar, CEO of the tech major HCL Technologies. While addressing the Fortune Global Forum in New Delhi on October 30, Nayar said, "Even while a B-school like Harvard has come all the way to do a case-study on companies like HCL, Indian institutes like the IIMs are still to wake up and write cases about leading India companies."

Nayar along with Naresh Goyal, Chairman, Jet Airways; Chanda Kochhar, Joint MD, ICICI Bank; Anand Mahindra, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra were speaking on the topic 'India Inc Goes Global' at the Fortune Global Forum.

Nayar, while talking about the Indian talent management, said, "In last few years, as the IT industry has grown enormously in size, the quality of talent have come down. So what IT industry and its players have done is to do backward integration with engineering colleges. We get involved deeply in the education and training processes of students for their last two years. This ensures that we get better quality human resources."

Nayar added, "B-schools should engage top companies in the same ways as engineering institutes do."

Earlier commenting on the theme of discussion, Chanda Kocchar said, "Indian companies are on a great global M&A spree. There are strong fundamental reasons for this. In last few years, Indian companies have improved their balance sheets, operations etc. Also they want to get closer to their international consumer base with these acquisitions."

Fortune Global Forum is being held in New Delhi from October 29-31. Some of the key speakers at the Forum include Michel Dell, Founder of Dell Computers, John Chambers, CEO, Cisco, Thomas Friedman, New York Times Columnist and Author, The World Is Flat; Lloyd Blankfein, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.
