Union HRD Minister Dr MM Pallam Raju has asked B-schools like IIMs to join government in finding solutions to varied problems faced by society in different part of the country. He was speaking at foundation stone laying ceremony for a new campus of IIM Raipur at Pota-Cheriya village under Naya Raipur on May 5, 2013.

Addressing the faculty and students of IIM Raipur he asked them to, “orient their focus to the growth and development of state.” He argued the institute to “participate and join hands with Government in finding solutions to the regional problems and issues of the state. This was the only way to provide meaningful education.”

He said that education is a medium to build the strength of the nation and the government is committed to develop knowledge and skill base in the country. “We owe it to the nation to expand the capacity of higher learning. It is the supreme duty of the Institutes to provide avenues for strengthening the skills,” he said.

IIM Raipur which is currently operating from Government Engineering College at Sejbahar in Raipur, will have its state-of-art 200-acre new campus functional from 2015-16 and will present a mix of modern architecture, culture and heritage of Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, IIM Raipur BoG Chairman Shri Hari S. Bhartia, Chhattisgarh  Minister of Higher and Technical Education Shri. Ram Vichar Netam, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Bhushan Lal Jangde and IIM Raipur Director Dr B.S. Sahay were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Shri Hari S. Bhartia thanked and appreciated the contribution of the State Government for continuous support in providing 200 acres of land for IIM Raipur as well as other resources.  On the role of IIM Raipur as a centre for world class management education and training he said, “the vision for IIM Raipur is to provide high quality value education, serving society, state and nation for economic growth and development.

“Besides this, IIM Raipur has also partnered with the state on three fronts-policy, growth and development and will remain committed to this role. It will also be a centre for knowledge creation in form of high quality research,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh drew out similarities between managing an organisation and successfully managing the state. “Shareholders for both an organisation and state are important for successful working. However, the shareholders of the state are more varied and constitute a large group, approximately 2.5 crores in case of Chhattisgarh and managing in such circumstances becomes challenging,” Dr Singh said.

Drawing on his rich experiences, he stressed on the principles of “team work, self-confidence in taking timely and right decisions, setting targets, managing time frames, selecting right people for work and executing with transparency.”  He invited IIM Raipur students to join hands with the Government of Chhattisgarh for its progress and recommending reforms. He also asked them to study the Government projects because, “Success comes through the strong will power to execute theories and understand ground realities.”

On the occasion IIM Raipur Director Dr B S Sahay expressed gratitude to the consistent government support that the institute has been receiving since its establishment in 2010.
