McKinsey, TCS, IBM, Phillips, L&T participate in IIM-Trichy HR Conclave

Leading Corporates like McKinsey, TCS, Motorola, Mahindra and Mahindra, IBM, Philips participated in the HR Conclave 2013 organized by IIM-Tiruchirappalli on 20th Sept. 2013
The event aims to make students aware about the present scenario of HRM in the corporate world. Industry and academia coherently discussed about the various issues in this conclave.

Mr. Ashok Thakur, IAS, Secretary (HE), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India inaugurated the first HR Conclave-2013 organized by IIM- Tiruchirappalli on the 20th September 2013. The Director of IIM-T, Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri and Dean of Academics IIM-T, Prof. V. Gopal addressed the inaugural session. The conclave was a great success with the active participation of Corporate and academic world.

The event aims to make students aware about the present scenario of HRM in the corporate world. Initially, industry and academia coherently discussed about the various issues in this conclave. Corporate leaders like IBM, Philips, M&M, L&T, TAFE, TCS, NHRD, Capgemini, Gemba Consulting and McKinsey participated in various panel discussions and emerging issues on Human Resource Management.

Three Panel discussions were held at this event. The first one was Leadership and Change, which was headed by Mr. Sasi Sunkara, Partner-McKinsey India, Mr. K. Ganesan, VP-HR, TCS and Mr. Muthu Kumar Thanu, CHRO, TAFE. It was underlined with the discussion that there is the importance of situational leadership over personal excellence followed by the emergence of leadership and how effectively a leader leads the change in a coherent way.

The second discussion was based on “Talent Retention”. The panelists threw light on retention management. They affirmed that emotional intelligence plays an important role in retaining competent Human Resources. In addition, speakers shared the techniques of HRM to eradicate cultural differences in the organization. This valuable discussion was directed by Mr. Dharmarajan, VP-HR, Head of Buildings & Factories, L & T; Mr. Krishna Bhagvan, Director HR, Motorola Solutions; Mr. Rajesh Padmanabhan, Corporate VP/ CHRO, Capgemini and Mr. Prince Augustin, Executive VP-Group HR and Leadership Development, Mahindra and Mahindra.

Finally, the discussion on “Redefining Culture for Employee Engagement” was initiated by Mr. Samir Agarwal, Principal, BCG, Mr. C. Mahalingam, Executive Coach and former HR Advisor of IBM, Phillips India and Meritor Fuelite, Mr. Soma Valliyappan, Life Member, NHRD; Ms. Vidya Muralidharan, HR, Business Partner, Ashok Leyland and Dr. Karthikeyan, MD, Gemba Consulting. It aims to balance the equation of “Work with Fun” and, innovation should be a tool for the young employees. The panelists concluded the discussion with the belief that Personal Development Program is the basic need for the young corporates.

The focus of all the panel discussions was on the functionality of the HR departments in Public and Private sectors with the suggestion how any organization should work synergistically through the initiative by HR dept

IIM-Tiruchirappalli was established in the year 2011 with 120 management seats. In their first batch of 2011-13, 118 students were placed in the leading corporate giants like: KPMG, Indian Bank, Berger Paints etc. They offer Post Graduate Programme in Management, Post Graduate Programme in Business Management and Fellow Programme in Management. They are able to create international appearance by forming partnership with ESSCA group of schools. ESSCA group of schools are situated in Budapest, Shanghai, Paris and Angers.
