Around 4200 aspirants across India will sit for Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013 today, the first day of the exam. CAT 2013 will be conducted in a 20 day window from October 16th to November 11th, 2013 in Prometric centres across 40 cities.

"This increase in locations from 36 cities last year provides candidates greater flexibility and convenience for choosing a suitable test day. For candidates who are differently abled, additional support will be available," said CAT 2013 Convener Dr. Rohit Kapoor. This year, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of CAT registrations, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

CAT 2013 has also seen a rise in the number of women applicants and candidates with work experience. Dr. Rohit Kapoor said, “While overall registration has declined, the ratio of female candidates over two years has continued to steadily increase, to 29 per cent. The number of candidates with two or more years of work experience, registering for CAT, has risen to 16 per cent over the same span, while candidates with little to no work experience have declined to 66 per cent.”

This year, the 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have added 115 seats for B school admissions, for a total of 3,335 seats across all IIMs. The total duration of test will be two hours and 35 minutes, including a 15 minute tutorial in the starting. The examination will contain two sections including quantitative ability, data interpretation and verbal ability, logical reasoning.

The test will be held for 140 minutes. Candidates have been requested to arrive at their test centres 1.5 hours before the start of the exam as there will be identity verification process. The morning session is scheduled to begin by 10 am and the afternoon session by 3.15 pm.

Candidates are required to carry their original CAT admit card, a photo identity proof card and, in case of reserved category students, documents supporting eligibility to the category specified.

Prometric is confident of a successful CAT 2013 exam. “Prometric has taken all the necessary preparations to ensure CAT 2013 candidates have smooth testing experiences.  All test centres have been quarantined prior to the start of the testing window to allow Prometric to prepare and test all the equipment that is being used for CAT.” said Prometric in a statement.
