Chicago tops Economist Rankings; IIM A ranked #39; leaps up by 17 ranks

Leading business publication The Economist has published its 11th MBA Rankings. IIM Ahmedabad, the only Indian B-school in the ranking, is ranked at # 39, moving up from Rankin # 56 last year.
IIMA is the only Indian B-school to get ranked in The Economist full-time MBA programmes ranking since the last four years.

Leading business publication, The Economist has published its 11th MBA Rankings. Chicago University’s Booth School of Business has retained its first place in this annual ranking of full-time MBA programmes. IIM Ahmedabad, the only Indian B-school in the ranking, is ranked at 39th position, moving up from 56th last year.

 

American MBA programmes dominate the rankings and occupy the first four places and account for 16 of the top 25 schools. The leading European school is IESE in Spain. The other big trend is the rise of Hong Kong University, the top Asian school. It breaks into the top 25 rankings for the first time.

Happy with the progress IIM A is making on this respected ranking, the institute said, “IIMA is the only Indian B-school to get ranked in The Economist full-time MBA programmes ranking since the last four years. The Institute has made it to the 4th position in the Asia and Australasia 2013 regional rankings.” IIMA is also ranked number one on many criteria including ‘Student quality’, ‘Open new career opportunities’, ‘Percentage increase on pre-MBA salary’ and ‘Percentage who found jobs through the careers service’.”

 

Talking about Booth School of Business, Economist notes, “The school has taken top spot in three of the last four years. Chicago’s career-placement statistics are particularly impressive, with graduates getting jobs in a wide range of industries and earning an average basic salary of $115,000, a 66% increase on their pre-MBA salary.”

Economist rankings weights data according to what students say are important factors in considering an MBA program. The four categories covered are: opening new career opportunities (35%); personal development/educational experience (35%); increasing salary (20%); and the potential to network (10%). The figures collated combine hard data and the subjective marks given by the school’s students.
