Big Three IIMs launch finance magazine ‘The Money Manager’

In a unique association, Finance Clubs of Indian Institutes of Management, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta have come together to launch a finance magazine -- The Money manager.

The magazine was launched by Prof. Jayanth R. Varma at IIM-A on November 8. The conceptualization and design of the inaugural issue has been done by the students and faculty of IIM Ahmedabad.

The magazine attempts to raise and discuss issues pertaining to Finance, as diverse as Private Equity, Capital Markets, Insurance, and Investment Management. It will draw on insights of students, finance professionals and academicians.

On the positioning of the magazine, IIMs says, “The magazine is not positioned as a research journal. We want it to be a confluence of interesting and current ideas in finance. Therefore it is an easier read compared to a research journal and hence it will appeal to a much broader audience.”

IIMs plan to bring out three editions of Money Manager each year with the next edition due in January 2008. While this edition was published by at IIM Ahmedabad, the next issue will be published at IIM Calcutta and the third at IIM Bangalore.

On the contents of the magazine IIMs says, “The Money Manager will publish some of the best student articles from the top most B-Schools in the world. For the inaugural issue, the articles were reviewed by prominent academicians from IIM A, B and C. The selection was done keeping in mind several factors like originality, analysis, current relevance of topic and presentation style. In future editions, we would include distinguished people from industry as well in the panel of evaluators.”

Speaking on the occasion of launch of the magazine, Prof. J. R. Varma said, “I am delighted that the finance clubs of IIM-A, IIM-B and IIM-C have come together to launch the student finance magazine -- Money Manager. This would be a very valuable platform where finance students, professors and practitioners can exchange ideas on interesting contemporary developments in finance. It is heartening to find that the inaugural issue has articles from some very eminent academics and practitioners.”

Many leading academicians including Prof. Aswath Damodaran of Stern School of Business, NYU, Dr. Robert Cailloux of RBS London, Prof. Ingo Walters of Stern School of Business, NYU and Panikos Teklos of Citigroup Global markets London have shared their insights.

This panel of evaluators from IIM-A, IIM-B and IIM-C for the current issue include Prof. Ajay Pandey, Prof. Rajendra Patel and Prof Shailesh Gandhi from IIM Ahmedabad, Prof. R. Vaidyanathan and Prof. Ravi Anshuman from IIM Bangalore and Prof. Ashok Biswas and Prof. Manju Jaiswal from IIM Calcutta. Prof. Ajay Pandey, Chairperson, PGP program, IIM-A has extended his constant support in this endeavor.

The editor-in-chief of this inaugural edition is Ashish Kumar of IIM-A while the Managing editors are Vibhor Tikiya and Piyush Anchliya, both of IIM-A. The co-ordination committee members are Puneet Jain, IIM-C, Nivedita Joshi, IIM-C, Sumit Kumar, IIM-B, Meetali Jain, IIM-C and Karan Singal, IIM-B.

Other members of the editorial team include Tarun Jain, Harshal Mehra, Abhishek Ruwatia and Soumya Dwibedi from IIM-A. The Artwork and Design Director of this edition is Sapna Kshirsagar from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
