IIFT 2013:  Section wise Analysis
MBAUniverse.com in the earlier articles already emphasized on anticipated pattern of examination and provided some good tips for preparation also. There were 128 questions divided in 4 sections as follows:

Section-1 – The section was divided in 2 parts; Part 1 - Data Interpretation had 19 questions and Part 2- Analytical Ability had 20 questions. Questions were moderate to difficult and were observation based. A few aspirants who appeared in the test found the DI less calculative than last year.
Section-2- This section was devoted to General Awareness with 28 questions. This section was a mix of questions on past and present personalities, places, economics, current affairs, and conventional General awareness. A few questions based on phrases and vocabulary also found the place in this section for example what would a particular Latin phrase mean in English.

Section-3- This section was further divided in 2 parts. Part 1 had English Language with 20 questions based on core grammar fundamentals; vocabulary usage, synonyms, antonyms, fill in the blanks, one word substitution; Jumbled Paragraphs.
Part 2 of section 3 had 4 Reading comprehension passages followed by 16 questions in all.  Aspirants found the passages a bit long but fairly easy to attempt.

Section-4 had 25 questions on quantitative ability. The difficulty level was moderate to difficult. There were questions from Probability, percentage, ratio, geometry. Candidates were surprised not to find question from Number System although questions from LOG were there.
This section was found a little more difficult than last year.

IIFT 2013: Negative marking
IIFT and CAT both had one third of negative marking. Candidates who went for more accuracy than attempting more number of questions can expect to have better score.

IIFT 2013: Marking pattern
IIFT, like past years, had varying marking pattern in the range of 0.5 to 1 mark for each right answer. Candidates were found selecting and attempting more questions from sections carrying 0.75 and 1 mark per right answer. However, the time management factor also was a constraint as less than one minute was available to attempt one question.
