Pune based Career Forum believes that overall cut off for CAT 07 will be 123+. Responding to a query on MBAUniverse.com expert chat, Ms Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum said,

"Career Forum believes that cut-off for Quant section will be 31, for Logic and DI will be 35 and for Verbal ability it will be 42. Overall cutoff will be 123+."

When asked details about this cutoff projections, Ms Khanna responded, "This cutoff is for getting a call from at least 1 IIM, considering aprox. 70% accuracy. For more IIM calls, accuracy will be higher and for the lower institutes, it will be lesser."

Does this mean what Quantitative section is the toughest and verbal ability section the easiest in CAT 2007? Career Forum believes so. Says Ms Khanna, "Easy or difficult is relative to the student. Overall, it was easier to score in the VA section and relatively difficult in the Quant section."

Ms Khanna also informed MBAUniverse.com readers that there were four papers in all. While the questions were same, their placements were changed.

Read the chat transcripts:

Rajiv: Dear Ma'am, Please tell me, according to you which was the easiest and toughest section this year? I gave my exam this year.

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: Easy or difficult is relative to the student. Overall, it was easier to score in the VA section and relatively difficult in the Quant section.

Neha: Hello Ma'am, according to you how did you find CAT 2007 paper overall?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: CAT 2007 was similar to CAT 2006 in terms of the overall pattern, number of questions, marking scheme etc.

Rupam: How do we start looking at Cut offs...what is it likely to be? Pease try and answer for overall and by section. Thanks.

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: Our cutoffs will be: Quant-31, Logic and DI-35 and Verbal-42 and the overall cutoff will be 123+.

Naina: Respected Maam, earlier you said that overall likely cut-offs would be 123+. Considering the same how much percentage of questions attempt and accuracy is required to meet this cut-off?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: This cutoff is for getting a call from at least 1 IIM, considering approx. 70% accuracy. For more IIM calls, accuracy will be higher and for the lower institutes, it will be lesser.

Aiysha: Maam, how would you rate this CAT in comparison with last one on a scale of 1 to 10. From difficulty level point of view and cut off point of view. Please give 1 to 10 marks for last years and this CAT

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: The feel of the paper is a very relative aspect. There is no change in the pattern. So, there were no big surprises.

Nirav: Hi, could you please tell me which schools do not look for sectional cut-off I did not fared well in quant?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: Almost all B-schools set their sectional cutoffs. Some reveal about them, others do not. It is your relative performance in the paper that will decide the kind of calls you can expect.

Heena: Hi Ma'am! Some one has told me that there was error in English section. Have you noticed any kind of error in the CAT paper?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: No comments.

Ishika: I am attempted CAT only this year. After giving the exam I analyze that what the performance I gave will not lead me to top 10 B-schools. What should I do? Should I accept B-school other than my choice or give CAT 2008? Please suggest.

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: You will get a lot of information regarding b-schools you can apply to on our website in a short while. If nothing works out this year, try again.

Priya: Maam, you have said that "Our cut-offs: Quants-31, Logic and DI-35 and Verbal-42. Overall cutoff will be 123+" Does it mean that you believe that Quant was the toughest and VA was the easiest?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: From an average student's point of view, this is going to be the general feel. Some may be good in a particular section, though.

Mansi: Your overall cutoff is 123+. Is this applicable to IIMs. What about MDI, IIM Indore and Kozhikode?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: The overall cutoff of 123+ is for at least one IIM call. You will be able to see a detailed analysis of cutoffs for other institutes on our website shortly.

Nirav: Were there many types for question paper, if yes how many. Where can I get reliable solution keys and by when?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: There were 4 types: 111, 222, 333, 444.

Sandeep: I am an engineer and found quant to be not as difficult, but I am not so sure about DI...please suggest.

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: DI was reasonable, not tough or easy.

Nirav: Thanks Maam. One more question. In the four question papers, were the questions in all same...or were they different?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: There will be a difference in the sequence of questions in a particular section and also in the sequence of sections.

Shailja: Dear Maam, there was no change in the pattern of CAT this year. It is as in 2006. What do you think? What should be the reason behind this?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: That the pattern has not changed, in itself, is a surprise, as there has always been some differentiating factor(s) till last year.

Viral: Hi this is Viral, I found the overall CAT quite easy and am just a science graduate...does it mean that the cutoffs will be highly competitive to reach top 3 B-schools?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: That's good! It simply means that you were cool enough while taking the test. How you have performed relatively is what is going to matter.

Nirav: Is IIM - Shillong also included for this year's admission?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: Yes.

Qaseem: It looks to me that this CAT was really tough and am dejected with my performance...what should I do now...should I plan for next year?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: The solution is not in feeling dejected... you will have to fight it out. If you have applied for other exams, prepare well for them.

Chirag: I want to give all important exams for MBA. How should my strategy be for other exams like FMS and XLRI after CAT 07?

Sujata Khanna, Chairperson, Career Forum: Try and solve as many sample papers of these exams as possible.
