IMT Ghaziabad Final admission round 2014

Candidates shortlisted for final admission round have to report at the designated time say at 8.30 in the morning (If it is the morning session) at the designated place to appear for final admission round. They need to carry with them the following documents for verification. It takes around 40 to 45 minutes to verify the documents of all the candidates.

1. CAT/XAT/GMAT (as applicable) score card

2. One filled up registration form with one photocopy of the same filled up form

3. Original degree and marks sheet of graduation, 10th and 12th. No photocopies are required.

4. Original work experience documents. . This process takes around 45 minutes

Formation of groups

8-10 groups comprising 12-14 candidates are formed to begin the caselet followed by GD round. Members of each group then have to participate in the final process.

How a caselet is different from WAT or GD

In essay writing or GD candidates have to either write or share their views. Caselet at IMT Ghaziabad is a multifacet test which includes understanding of a situation/problem, find out the solution and present it in a group. In the end candidates are required to write summary of the same. In view of Dr. Bibek Banerjee, Director IMT Ghaziabad ‘We judge the student on his/her oral communication, listening skills, analytical skills, body language, behavior in a group, effective leadership skills and ability to present his/her thoughts, ideas and point of view with clarity.’

Reading a caselet

A caselet or case study is a short situation written on a sheet of paper in 60-70 words(Less than half of the length of A4 size paper). The candidate is given the time of 4-5 minutes to read, understand the same and present the course of action to be taken to arrive at the result.

Example of caselet

Following is a caselet example with changed situation that appeared in the final admission round at one of the top rated B schools-

Suppose you are an employee of XYZ info system and joined 6 months back. There is an important assignment which is to be submitted by a colleague today. But that colleague is on emergency leave and he has done the same thing twice in last 3 months. You also have to attend an important family function. What will you do?

How to solve the caselet in 3 minutes

Key points to devise the course of action

i) Cause of the issue-diagnosis-Reasons that led to create and aggravate the problem

ii) Constraints in moving forward like knowledge gap

iii) Available alternatives to use and diffuse the problem in a positive manner

iv) Analysis of such alternatives; whether the same can be effectively applied

v) Outline the course of action; and

vi) Implement the decision

Completion time

All this exercise has to be completed by the group in 14-15 minutes including your reading and presentation. The suggestion is to make 2-3 entries with logical points in the group and avoid the entry when fish market discussion is going on.

Be ready for personal interview @ IMT Ghaziabad

Immediately after the caselet, GD and summary writing, you will be required to face the interview panel. Interview could last for 10 to 15 minutes and in some cases may go as long as for 20-25 minutes.

Questions in PI at IMT Ghaziabad Admission round 2014

Recent personal interviews at IMT Ghaziabad remained focused on personal profile type questions; general GK questions; questions based on place they belong to; famous personalities; a little on academics and work experience; why MBA; how MBA will match a B.tech/science/arts/pharma graduate; why should the admission be offered to you; why this institute.

Candidates should explore and be ready with the answers to these common questions without any ambiguity in mind. When you face the interview, face it with confidence but avoid bluffing as this will create a bad impression of you.

A few of the candidates who appeared in the final admission round at the B school informed that no question deep enough in regard to the work experience or academics was asked in the personal interview.  It was a positive and healthy process.

GK questions in PI

A few questions like name 3 Indian Noble prize winners and their areas of work; recent happenings in Cricket and football; Chief Ministers of states; speakers of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were asked during the PI round.

According to Dr. Bibek Banerjee, Director, ‘IMT is looking for students with sound academic background, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong domain knowledge and analytical skills. As in previous years, in the 2014 admissions cycle, IMT has been able to attract an excellent mix of candidates with strong profile and background. It may be noted that we would be using a rigorous selection process to select the best amongst them.’

IMT Ghaziabad has partnered with Arizona State University’s (ASU) WP Carey School Business, for dual degree programme in which students have the ability to earn degrees from both institutions. There is a 2+1 model wherein students spend 2 years in IMTG followed by 1 year in ASU. In the 1+1 model, selected students spend 1 year in IMTG followed by 1 year in ASU.
