After general management students, its now time for Agri-business students at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) to make some news.

Several big names like consultancy firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and banking and agri-consulting firm YES Bank have hired Agri-business Management program students for summer placements. A total of 17 companies participated in the summer placement process of Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management (PGP-ABM) program for a batch of 25 students. The students had on an average about 2 offers to choose from.

The new entrants this season were global agribusiness giant Louis Dreyfus, Miebach Logistics, consulting major PWC, YES Bank, Glaxo Smith Kline, Fortune 500 company Aditya Birla Group for their retail venture, Britannia, Nandan Biomatrix and Claris Lifesciences Ltd.  IIM-A informs that regular recruiters like RPG, Godrej, Marico, ITC, ICICI Bank and ICICI Prudential continued their association this year.

With the current food retailing boom in the country, IIM-A's Agri-business managers are being wooed by the food retail sector. Says Mr. Arvind N Agrawal, President, Corporate Development and HR , RPG Group, "With RPG's growth story and the retail expansion, we find very valuable talent for the future leadership positions from the students of  IIM Ahmedabad Agri-Business Management."

There was immense diversity in the projects offered to the students, in domains ranging from supply chain management to retailing, from agri and food consulting to finance and from market research to strategy formulation.

Professor Piyush Kumar Sinha, Chairperson, Placement Committee of IIMA, said that though larger number of companies expressed their keenness to offer summer project and there was a hike in average stipend, but what delighted students was an opportunity to work on high profile live projects.

IIM-A says this time the biggest criterion to choose internship project was the nature of the project being offered. Many students were keen on associating themselves with strategic projects. Subodh Kant, who chose to work with Claris Life sciences, said that keeping our career in view, its better we work on a project where we get larger roles to play and which involves practical learning.

IIMA is one of the few management schools in the world which offers Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management (PGP-ABM) to prepare managers, business leaders and entrepreneurs in food and agribusiness sector. The Post-Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM) is a full-time two year residential programme designed to prepare students for careers in management related to agriculture, food, agri-business, rural and allied sectors of the economy.
