Placement in IIM Shillong in 2014 saw a rise in average salary over placement 2013, despite the economic slowdown. In 2013 there were 52 total recruiters out of which 39 made offers to 102 candidates who participated in placement 2013. Total batch size was 0f 104 students while 2 of the students didn’t participate in the placement process.
Finance emerged as the most preferred domain on campus with 29% of the batch opting for a career in Finance. This was followed by Sales & Marketing, with 21% of the batch opting for a career in this domain. Highest international package offered in 2013 was Rs. 32 lakhs.
Number of participants in placement 2014 increased to 105 from 102. PSUs like BPCL, Power grid Corporation, Oil India also participated in placement 2014. Finance again emerged as the most preferred sector with 27% placement followed by 26% in sales and marketing. While Tata Steel emerged as the top recruiter, above referred 8 recruiters made 46% of total offers.

IIM Kozhikode
IIM Kozhikode is about to announce the admission merit list shortly. Placements in 2013 and 2014 at the B school remained as under

Placement story of IIMK since2012 shows consistent growth. Batch size of 317 in 2012 increased to 325 in 2013 and number of recruiters also increased from 135 to 146 during the same period. IIMK had 22 international placement offers in 2013.
Number of participating students in placement 2014 further increased to 344. The season saw offers being made by 108 recruiters, including 39 new recruiters. Above referred top recruiters together made 38 offers. 28% offers were made in marketing and sales; 21% offers came from Finance domain and 15% from technology.
More than 25 international offers were made this year, with roles spanning across 7 countries.
Paramount Computer Systems and NMC Healthcare offered UAE-based marketing and sales
roles in information security and healthcare respectively. Kadence International offered front end roles based out of Indonesia.
IIM Indore
Indian Institute of Management Indore, the 6th in the family of state- supported management schools was successful in beating the recessionary trends. Placement at the B school remained as under

Top Recruiters: ITC, Madura, Pepsico, Raymond, Samsung, HSBC, CRISIL, AXIS Bank, CitiBank, American Express, cognizant, capgemini, CIPLA, GE, Accenture, Hindustand Unilever, HCL
Placement 2014 saw the increase in average placement package at the B school. From 142 companies that offered placement in 2013 to 429 participating, number of recruiters in 2014 increased to 152 offering 100% placement to all the 475 students seeking placements. Apart from domestic offers, the highest International offer at the B school in 2014 stood at Rs. 37 lakhs.
26% students were placed in sales and marketing; 24% in consulting; 20% in finance; 13% in General Management; 10% in IT and 7% in Operations at IIM Indore. There were 41 new recruiters and students were offered 61 PPOs.

How to decide
Before making the decision to take admission based on the placements during 2013 and 2014, following factors should be considered-
- Highest salary has less significance as it doesn’t determine the number of students getting the same offers at the highest package.
- Average package is the factor that determines the spread. If we analyse this part at IIM Shillong, the increase comes to 2.21% in 2014 over 2013; at IIM Kozhikode it comes to 10.48% and at IIM Indore it has increased by 0.24%. Maximum increase as is evident from the data published by these B schools is recorded by IIM Kozhikode.
- Select the B school for admission where more placements are offered in the desired domain.
If more students at IIM Indore are placed in Sales and marketing and you wish to pursue MBA in Finance, wouldn’t it be better to choose IIM Shillong. However the decision is yours.
