While number of B-schools are struggling for their survival, some of the reputed ones like MDI, LBSIM and CIM are investing crores in establishing new campuses at different locations in India.
It remains to be seen how good the new campuses of these B schools would perform in next few years

The struggle for existence and survival of the fittest is the universal truth which applies to MBA education also. While number of B-schools are struggling for their survival some of the reputed ones like MDI, LBSIM, CIM are investing crores of rupees in establishing new campuses at different locations in India.

Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon has established its new campus at Murshidabad in West Bengal while Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), New Delhi has chosen Indore for its new campus. Christ Institute of Management, Bangalore has taken the initiative to establish the MBA education institute at the hill city of Lavasa, near Pune.  All the new campuses have become functional from the session 2014 and are inviting applications for the MBA/PGDM batch 2014-16.

Although it remains to be seen how good the new campuses of these B schools would perform in next few years, these sought after B schools are optimistic about the future of MBA education in the country in view of their track records and anticipated future economic growth that is expected to create more job opportunities for fresh MBAs.
Let’s look at the highlights of other new initiatives.

MDI Murshidabad

MDI Murshidabad is located 250 kms from Kolkata. It’s a 10 acre campus. The institute has started functioning in the session 2014.

Talking about the launch of the new campus, MDI says, “With IFCI as the promoting institution, MDI renews its commitment towards making quality management education accessible to one and all, with the setting up of the campus at Murshidabad. The campus is part of MDI’s vision to nurture & promote local talent and enterprise. MDI Murshidabad would seek to align local aspirations with up-to-date knowledge and technologies. The campus is being developed by IFCI’s sister entity, IFCI Infrastructure Development Limited.

Admission notification for AICTE approved 2 years full time PGPM programme at MDI Murshidabad is out. Unlike MDI Gurgaon which accepts CAT scores only, MDI Murshidabad will accept CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT scores for admission batch 2014-16. Fee announced for the first batch is Rs.8.73 lacs and the last date of submitting the admission application is June 5, 2014. Candidates seeking admission on the basis of MAY 2014 MAT scores will still have time of at least one week to apply in this B school since these scores will be available in the last week of May 2014.

At present, CIM will offer two-year full-time AICTE approved PGDM courses with specialization in Finance and Marketing from June 2014 and will subsequently increase number of courses.
CIM Lavasa will accept CAT/MAT/CMAT/XAT scores for admission 2014. The applicable fee for the PGDM course shall be Rs.8 lacs. The admission seekers have to apply before June 30, 2014 for the batch 2014-16.

These new launches suggest that good B-schools with deep pockets are optimistic that they can successfully run a new campus. However, going by the recent trends, many leading B-schools like IMT Ghaziabad and International Management Institute (IMI) are finding it difficult to match up the admissions and placements of their second campuses with the flagship ones.
