Have you been selected to an MBA college for Admission 2014? This article tells you what you should do after learning that you are accepted to an MBA College.
At any point of time be sure that you know what you are accepting and what you are declining.

The long waiting is finally over and your name shows right up there in the final list for Admission to Batch 2014-16, Congratulations!

You have worked long and hard to obtain a range of necessary experiences, including high marks in MBA entrance exams, excellent performance in GD, showing writing skills in WAT and finally winning the hearts of panel judges in Personal Interview. Not to forget numerous calls to admission offices and daily visit to B-school websites.

You successfully navigated this whole application process - no easy accomplishment! Regardless, many of you feel both delighted and puzzled after receiving the final word of acceptance from your MBA College. Excitement is obvious but confusion is also common as students wonder about their next steps. So what should you do after learning that you are accepted to an MBA College?

- Get Excited!

First, take the time to enjoy this fantastic moment. Experience excitement and emotions as you see fit. Some students party, others cry, laugh, some jump up and down, and others dance. After spending the last one year or more focusing on the future, enjoy the moment.

Happiness is a normal and expected reaction to being accepted to an MBA college of your choice. However many students are surprised that they also feel impatient and even a little sad. Unsettling feelings are common response to being awarded admission to MBA College and are usually an expression of emotional exhaustion after the stress of waiting for an extended period.

No matter, how one react and feel, always believe in yourself and keep your morale high. You have done well so far and hence enjoy.

- SWOT Analysis

Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat!

How many application forms have you submitted? Is this your first acceptance letter? Do you expect any offer from other MBA Colleges?

You need to ask these questions and analyze it. It’s always tempting to accept the first offer immediately and be tension free, but you need to wait if you have applied to other MBA programs. If you think, this is your best option among all the B- schools that you have applied, then go ahead and accept it.

Always, carefully consider the offer and the program before accepting or declining an offer of admission.

- Don't Hold on to More than One Offer

Chances are that you may be accepted to several MBA Colleges or at least a couple. It may be tempting to wait and make a decision until you hear from all the MBA Colleges, but try not to hold on to more than one offer in hand. Why?

Because there are other applicants like you who are also anxiously waiting to hear if they are admitted. That is, they are waiting for you to tell the admissions committee that you are not interested in their offer. Have consideration. Each time you get an offer from an MBA College, compare it with the one you have in hand and determine which one to decline. Repeat this comparison process as you receive each new offer.

Admissions committees will appreciate your timeliness and honesty - and they will be able to move on to the next candidate on their waiting list. You hurt other candidates, your peers, by holding on to offers that you have no intention of accepting. Notify the MBA College as soon as you realize and decide that you will decline their offer. Your one timely step can fulfill someone else dreams too!

- Don’t get pressurized

You may find that some MBA colleges may call you and put pressure on you to make a quick decision and accept their offer of admission before say May 30. It's not appropriate on the part of Admission committee to put pressure on you and hence stand your ground. Unless and until you are absolutely certain that it is the B-school for you. Remember, that you are not obligated to take a decision until May 30. Hence, think a lot before accepting or declining an offer.

- Clarify all your doubts

 Don’t just choose a B-school just because it’s very renowned. On the contrary, you must clarify various important parameters like;

a. For which program have you been selected- MBA or PGDM or MMS or etc.

b. Is it the flagship program of that B-school?

c. Are you entitled to any financial aid like scholarships, etc? Ask for it!

d. What is the total break up of Fee structure? Will you be able to afford it? How?

At any point of time be sure that you know what you are accepting and what you are declining. In the end, no one else but  it will be you only to be blamed for any wrong doing. Hence, think wisely.

- Declining Admission

After you have decided your MBA Colleges, don’t forget to inform other MBA Colleges that offered you admission that you have declined their offer. Is it necessary, yes sure it is!
How do you decline an offer of admission? Send a short email thanking the college for the offer and notifying them of your decision. Address the note to your contact person or to the entire admissions committee, and simply explain your decision. MBA College will appreciate your decision to inform them and thus will be able to intimate the next prospective student in line of his/her admission chances.

- Celebrate again!

Now that evaluating, decision making, informing the institute, everything is done, it’s time to again let loose and enjoy. The difficult decisions are over, the waiting period is over. You know what you will be in next 2-years, Enjoy your ride to success!
