Getting into an IIM is the dream of every CAT aspirant but how serious he or she is to achieve this goal depends upon the amount of hard work put in the right direction. CAT 2013 was rated moderate to difficult and CAT 2014 is expected to have questions with higher level of difficulty going by the reputation of entrance examination.

Prof S K Agarwal, Expert on Verbal Ability shares important do’s and don’ts for CAT 2014 aspirants to succeed in their preparation journey

1. Hard work and focused study can do magic

No dream is too big but no dream can be turned into reality through magic. CAT 2014 aspirants are aware of this fact. So instead of waiting to begin the hard preparation, they should begin immediately.  How to prepare, what to prepare, which coaching to join on-line or offline or a combination of both – everything has to be decided, if you wish to ‘bell the CAT 2014’

2. On-line coaching: a boon

The suggestion is to go for self study and join an online coaching as it will save your time, energy and money. Working professionals have less time to spare. Online Live Classes with flexible and convenient time frame are a boon for them. Preparation packages offer hundreds of online sessions with CAT experts. On line classes are the virtual classes especially designed to cater to the needs of CAT Aspirants.

7. Don’t get misguided

Thinking that there is still ample time to CAT 2014, why should I begin my preparation now is a misleading thought. The late you begin the more you leave out of your study material.

8. Don’t get depressed during preparation

In case you find a topic too difficult to understand or unable to solve a certain question, try to maintain your cool, don’t get panicky or depressed. Try to discuss with your mentor, he might be able to help you out.

9. Don’t leave anything to chance

The thought that this is not important may be disastrous. There could be different type of questions but every topic is important and nothing should be left to chance.

10. Don’t go for parrot fashion learning

CAT has changed and so has changed the type of questions especially in Verbal Ability section. There was time when CAT used to ask core synonyms and antonyms; direct questions on RC passages but it are not so now. Vocabulary words are to be used in context and questions on RC passages are indirect. So avoid learning synonyms and antonyms in parrot fashion.  Better to learn and use in sentences. You may consult your mentor in class, on forum or whatever opportunity you get to interact with him. It will clarify your doubts.
