Updated on August 1, 2014
The CAT 2014 convening IIM Indore & TCS has announced that CAT 2014 will be more aspirant friendly in the 2 days test window. Is CAT 2014 exam aspirant friendly? Let's find it out.
It's a well thought of process and CAT 2014 may surely prove to be more aspirant friendly than earlier CAT exams

The CAT 2014 convening IIM Indore, in testing partnership with TCS has announced that CAT 2014 will be more ‘aspirant friendly’ in the 2 days test window spread over 4 sessions on November 16 and 22, 2014. So to some extent it implies that earlier CAT exams with long duration of 15 to 20 days were not so friendly for test takers or CAT 2014 will bring something special for the test takers to make it more aspirant friendly.

In many ways yes! It’s a well thought of process and CAT 2014 may surely prove to be more aspirant friendly than earlier CAT exams.

No Test scheduling nightmares

CAT 2014 test taker has to appear in the exam either on Nov 16 or 22, 2014 in any of the 4 sessions. Now the long nightmares when to schedule the test and get the best and convenient date as per the suitability during the 15 or 20 days testing window are over. Aspirants will get the information about their test site and session after 15 days from the last date of registration by the testing agency TCS. So focus on preparation more while scheduling of test will be taken care of by the testing agency.

Normalization of scores; no issue

2 days, 4 sessions same type of questions, same pattern and same exam composition are what CAT 2014 has in store for the aspirants. No more calculation is required to assess what appeared and when during the 40 separate sessions, what is the difficulty level through each session and how the score for each session could and each day would be normalized by CAT testing agency and IIM for such long testing window.  CAT 2014 scoring and normalization is proposed to be thoroughly transparent. The difficulty level through all the 4 sessions is expected to remain the same and the scoring and normalization of scores will hopefully not create an issue in CAT 2014 as happened in CAT 2013 which attracted court cases on normalization issue.

Gap of a week in 2 dates

CAT 2014 has also taken due caution not to force the test dates on consecutive days. In case of any problem all the preventive measures have been taken to ensure a transparent and aspirant friendly test. The second day of CAT 2014 therefore has a gap of one week between two dates so that all the shortcomings are well plugged from November 16 to November 22.

2 dates on 2 weekends

Dr Rohit Kapoor, faculty at IIM Indore and CAT convener was very happy when he shared that both the CAT 2014 exam dates are on weekends. It will be good for the CAT 2014 aspirants as they can appear in the CAT 2014 with no week-day worry.  Besides aspirants may not expect traffic jams on weekends which would otherwise be a problem on weekdays to arrive at the testing site.

No worry of leave for working executives

CAT has been a preferred test for working people as more and more working executives appear in CAT every year. No leave will be required to be applied for, by these working professionals who plan to appear in CAT 2014 as the first date falls on a Sunday and the next on Saturday. Both are supposed to be the holidays in corporate sector.

If you are preparing for CAT 2014 and wish to bell the CAT in 2014, it’s a good opportunity as the difficulty level in CAT 2014 is also expected to be moderate.
