Lets what leading institutes like Mumbai based IMS Learning, Hyderabad based Triumphant Institute of Management Education (TIME), Delhi based Career Launcher and Pune based Career Forum have to say.
The paper was scheduled for 120 minutes and had a total of 150 questions where the maximum marks were 100. The number of questions increased to 150 this year, which were 106 in 2006. The paper was divided in 4 sections where each section had 2 sub-sections except General Awareness. The sections were Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VA & RC); General Awareness (GA); Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA & DI) and Logical Reasoning and Decision Making (LR & DM).
The IIFT 2007 paper pattern was almost the same as in 2006. The only difference was that this year there was only one correct answer of each question while in 2006 some questions had multiple correct answers. According to Career Forum, " Last year, the IIFT paper was set in a manner, which was completely out of trend with respect to other management entrance exam papers. Probable criticism by the MBA aspirants must have put this year's paper back on track with no question having multiple correct answers."
According to IMS Learning, " Overall, the test was not very time-consuming and there was a fair sprinkling of questions that were easy to answer compared to last year".
Section-wise analysis of IIFT 2007
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Apparently this section was a tough nut to crack. According to TIME analysis, "This section would have been a tough nut to crack even for someone who has a good reading habit and considers himself to be strong in this area. The questions were descriptive and had a very peculiar format which requires quite a bit of effort".
General Awareness
The analysis done by Career Launcher says, "The emphasis this year was more on static and current GK, rather than Business GK. Overall, the difficulty level of this section was moderate to difficult, with a couple of speed-breakers thrown in between".
Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
This was a difficult section for the paper. According to TIME, "The Quant and Data Interpretation section was the most difficult section in the paper. The questions resembled small RC passages and involved lengthy and very tedious calculations. The DI section had 5 tables and all of them involved very lengthy calculations as every choice needed to be worked out to arrive at the right answer".
Logical Reasoning and Decision Making
IMS Learning analysis says that "this section had a good blend of different types of questions. Some questions were quite simple while a few others were time consuming. A wise selection of questions could have helped to get a good score".
So what are the overall likely cut-offs of IIFT 2007? Each institute has their own number, although they are quite close.
