Wharton Prof Jitendra Singh new Dean of HKUST B-School, Hong Kong from Sep 1

Joining the likes of Dr Dipak Jain, who recently took over as the new Dean of SASIN Business School in Thailand, Wharton Professor Dr Jitendra Singh will be taking over as the new Dean of Hong Kong's HKUST B-School.

Stanford University and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) alumnus Dr Jitendra Singh is a well known global management scholar and business educator. He is currently a Professor of Management at the Wharton School, where he has played a number of significant roles in boosting the school’s global presence since joining the faculty in 1987. Representing Wharton, he played a leading role in bringing forth Wharton’s contribution towards establishment of Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad and Singapore Management University (SMU).

Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, said he was very pleased that the University has found such an acclaimed scholar and able administrator to lead HKUST Business School. “With Prof Singh’s wide-ranging experience and achievements in the academic, business strategy and policy arenas, I am certain he will bring HKUST Business School to new heights. We are excited about this appointment,” said Prof Tony F Chan.

Dr Jitendra Singh said, “I am honored to have been chosen to lead the School of Business and Management at HKUST and it is exciting for me to be back in Asia at a time when momentous changes are under way. I look forward to working with the university and business school leadership to build on the strong foundations that are already in place, and strive toward ever higher goals, while contributing both to the region and to global society.”

At Wharton, Prof Singh has played numerous roles. As Wharton’s Vice-Dean, International Academic Affairs, from 1998 to 2001, he contributed to the establishment of the Singapore Management University in Singapore, the worldwide alliance between Wharton and INSEAD, and the foundation of the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, India. From 2007 to 2009, while on leave from Wharton, he was Dean and Shaw Foundation Chair, Professor of Strategy, Management and Organization of Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University.

Established just two decades ago in 1991, the HKUST Business School has risen to international prominence in a remarkably short period of time, achieving widespread global recognition and a variety of prestigious academic rankings. The HKUST Business School was the first business school in the region to have been awarded accreditation by both the US-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). Its full time MBA program was ranked No. 1 in Asia for five consecutive years and the world's No. 14 in 2014 by Financial Times Rankings. HKUST was also ranked as No. 1 in Asia and No. 20 in the world by University of Texas at Dallas in management research and publications.
