The UAE government has recognized the importance of developing a strong management education system.  As a result there has been a significant rise in the number of private universities offering management education in the UAE.

To maintain high academic standards across all universities in the UAE, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) established the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA). CAA accreditation process includes evaluating the curriculum, academic plans, examination process, quality of faculty, research publications of the faculty, size of the class and other metrics.

The higher education landscape in Dubai consists of about 53 institutions (compared to 25 in 2009). These institutions fall into different categories – namely, federal institutions, branch campuses of international universities which are located in the Free Zones and private UAE universities.  In 2012, higher education students in Dubai increased by 11%. Data from the Higher Education Landscape Report of 2011, produced by the Knowledge & Human Development Authority (KHDA), reveals that 69% of students in Dubai enrolled in Bachelor’s programs and 19% enrolled in Master’s degree. The most popular fields of study are Business (40% of students), Law and Religion (19% of students).

Dubai`s demography, with its vast expatriate population (85% out of around two million), makes for a fascinating cultural mix of different nationalities and religions with different needs, preferences and goals. In Dubai, factors affecting university selection are often different from those in a more culturally homogenous city. However, three most critical factors among students for selecting a university are: availability of programs of study, reputation of the university, and international accreditation or affiliation of the university.

Some of the best MBA programs in UAE are as below:

Collaboration Opportunities

UD strongly encourages collaboration with international business schools with the focus on the following areas:

• Collaborative faculty research

• Faculty exchange from 1 term to 1 year duration

• Internship opportunities for international students

• Asymmetric study abroad opportunities at UD for international students for 1 term to 1 year.

• Sharing of library resources to keep the cost of operation low for partner business schools.

UD currently has collaboration with 8 business schools: 3 in USA, 2 in India, 2 in France, and 1 in Germany.

In India the tie-up is with TAPMI- Manipal (AACSB accredited) and ISBR (International School of Business & Research) – Bangalore. With TAPMI & ISBR, students complete 1st year of PGDM in their parent schools. UD provides exemption up to 5 courses that are equivalent to UD-MBA curricula. Students come over to UD in April each year to do 6 months Internship in Dubai in well reputed companies. In the evening students complete the remaining 8 courses over 6-8 months. After completion of these courses UD awards its MBA, and capable and qualified MBA graduates are placed in the Internship Company as full-time staff.

UD has engaged faculty from collaborating partner schools in delivering UD-MBA courses for 1-2 terms. During this period, the visiting faculty members undertake research activities with UD faculty members. These experiences are quite beneficial to both partner schools in terms of internationalization, cultural exchange and faculty collegiality.
