Indian Investment Ecosystem improving: Experts @ TiE Summit

The investment scenario in India is looking promising and has come a long way in last decade. Increasing number of venture capitalist is looking at India for investment. Entrepreneurs too are coming up with winning ideas that are scalable.

Highlighting the improving investment ecosystem in India during TiE Entrepreneurial Summit (TES) 2007 in New Delhi on December 11, Deepak Kamra, General Partner, Canaan Partners said, "Indian venture capital industry has come a long way. Last year, 20% of the investments in India were in the area of Internet, 25 % in IT/ITES and 7% in Mobile and VAS."

According to Sandeep Ghosh, Managing Director & Head Global Commercial Banking, India, Citi, "Fundamental strength of Indian economy i.e Saving rate, investment rate, demographic dividend and availability of financing in various forms to entrepreneurs are contributing in big way towards creating positive environment for entrepreneurs."

While sharing his experience, serial entrepreneur and Managing Director of Quatrro Raman Roy highlighted the investment scenario's contribution in BPO growth. He said, "Eight years back when I was starting out, there were not too many options for funding. Now there is a great change. I can say that BPO industry in India has succeeded because of improved investment ecosystem."

Investors are ready to fund, but good idea alone is not enough to get it. Said Raman Roy, "We are ready to cut the check but entrepreneur need to give us appropriate reason to get it from us. Just having a good idea is not enough to get the fund along with this they need ability to sell their business. They need to come up with business plan with strong selling points."

Highlighting key things that investors look for investment Mr Sandeep Ghosh said, "We look for business plan with value proposition and having sustainability." According to him entrepreneurs need to reconcile that there is price for the risk in entrepreneurship which they have to pay.
