Admission/Selection Criteria of IIM Bangalore

 

Admission to IIMB is not that easy. CAT is the source entrance test to get admission in IIMB. An aspirant exploring admission opportunities at IIMB should not only score a high sectional as well as overall percentile in CAT, he/she must have an excellent academic profile. A work experience of 2/3 years will be an added advantage to get the final admission offer.

 

IIMB uses multiple parameters, namely academic performance in school, high school and graduation programs as well as candidates' scores in CAT/GMAT to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP program. Relevant work experience, if any, is also given weight in the selection. 

 

The CAT/GMAT score that is used as a cutoff varies from year to year.  The admission process includes a personal interview, conducted through remote video conferencing for international students, and an assessment of writing ability. Curriculam at IIMB

 

For the information of our CAT aspirants we would brief you about the kind of curriculum IIMB has structured to impart management education. If selected and becomes a part of the prestigious B School, an aspirant will have the post graduate programme split in six trimesters, spread over two years, with a summer project in between the two years.

 

The first year students are exposed to basic concepts in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Personnel Management and Human Resources Management, Quantitative methods, Operations and Behavioral Sciences through the 'core courses'. These lay the foundation for all the functional areas of management that helps develop problem solving skills.

 

In the second year, students specialize in functional areas of their interest. There is greater emphasis on the application of knowledge gained in the form of projects, group exercises and case discussions. Guest lectures supplement regular course work while the core Business Policy and Strategy course integrates the learning gained from the first year basic disciplines. Students are encouraged to take up dissertation work and to do a project on 'Contemporary Concerns' under faculty guidance.

 

 IIMB has the distinction of offering the largest variety of elective courses in the second year of the PGP, which makes it different from other B Schools.

 

Leadership at IIM B:

 

Dr. Sushil Vachani is the director of IIMB. The B school is doing wonders in his leadership. Dr. Vachani received his doctorate in International Business from the Harvard Business School, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

 

During his twenty-eight year career at Boston University, where he was a tenured Professor of Strategy and Innovation, Dr. Sushil Vachani served in a range of leadership positions: Faculty Director of the International Management Program in Japan, Chairman of the Strategy and Policy Department, Chairman of the Doctoral Program and Special Assistant to the University's President for its India Initiative. He designed, taught and coordinated programs for students, executives and policy makers in the US, Japan, China and India.

Accomodation:

 

Accommodation at IIMB consists of 10 hostel blocks, one executive block and the executive accommodation at the Management Development Center, popularly known as MDC. All students are provided with accommodation on campus in well-appointed single room in the Institute hostels. 24 hours Internet connectivity, fully automatic washing machines, music room, and recreation room are standard features. Laundry and Ironing services are also provided.

 

The hostels also have intercom facility, which is linked to the institute intercom. There are 3 STD/ISD, PCOs in the hostel premises for the convenience of the student apart from coin operated public telephones. There is also a student run library, music club and students shop in the hostel premises.
