The test of reasoning was easier and with no surprise element on the fourth and the final day of CMAT Sep 2014. Section of General awareness was more focused on General science, conventional and international GK. CMAT on September 28 and September 29, 2014 has been rated moderate with a mix of questions. The exam could be rated as closer to CMAT on the first day i.e. Sep 25, 2014. Students should however expect higher merit position with higher scores both sectional as well as overall. CMAT 2015 first test will close with the conduct of second session on September 29, 2014.

The aspirants who appeared on the fourth and the final day of CMAT on Sep 28 and 29, 2014 tried to give their best shot in the exam as the test was slightly easier although questions in English Language Comprehension and Quant sections were of mixed type containing more moderate and a few difficult questions. Data interpretation and Reasoning had more time consuming questions. Nevertheless, despite a few difficult and tricky questions the test was moderate overall and candidates could attempt very well in a range of 55-65 questions.

Language comprehension

The section had questions on correction of errors, fill in the blank types, vocabulary, jumbled sentences and RC passages. 10 questions out of 25 questions were on core English grammar, tenses, use of prepositions, subject verb agreement, use of synonyms and antonyms, fill in the blanks, short but tricky jumbled sentences. The 3 Reading Comprehension passages of 300-400 words were followed by 15-16 questions on them. Passages were not very difficult. Questions on RC passages were based on inference, facts.

Those who had practiced well on different types of questions in English language preparation and had clarity of concept could do well in this section. Out of 25 questions a good attempt of 18-20 questions could be rated as good to find better position in merit.

General Awareness

MBAUniverse.com had already advised the students to prepare on Indian Polity and international events to score more in this section.

Type of GK questions that appeared in CMAT

Questions in this section were different from regular ones but interestingly doable. For example a picture of a white spotted mosquito, followed by 4 options, was placed in the test asking to select the type of mosquito which causes dengue, chickungunya, or yellow fever. A photo of Lenin was placed and the aspirants had to recognize the personality.

Other questions that appeared were about the Headquarters of the BRICKS Development Bank; which country was recently removed from G8; which combination of wiring is used to supply electricity in homes; where is the headquarter of Tesco; who started the slogan 'Jai Hind'.

The questions were not difficult but needed a regular brushing up of General Awareness. The section was contributed more by conventional and international GK. Other questions were based on General Science, Constitution of India, Fiscal system of the country like taxation, type of tax, World affairs, sports, and abbreviations.

Candidates who could attempt 20 questions in this section are expected to secure a higher position in merit.

 Analytical reasoning

Reasoning problems were slightly on easier side on the 4th and 5th day of CMAT Sep 2014 exam. Questions didn’t appear in sets and 1 question was to be answered on each data. The section therefore became more time consuming. Main topics in reasoning section were Circular arrangement, routes, venn diagrams.

The overall section was not difficult although a few questions consumed more time.

Quant and DI

Questions in quant section on the last 2 days CMAT Sep 2014 were also of moderate level. It was a mix of questions based on Algebra, Geometry, PnC, profit and loss, Mensuration, Numbers. A few questions in this section, although not tough but were more time consuming. Questions on Data interpretation were a little lengthy and required more time to solve them.

Those who could attempt 18-20 questions can expect a good position in merit.
