Said Mr Chidambaram, "Human resource (HR) is the most important building block of building the new India. Today, our quality of HR is poor because of lack of proper education. The state of education in India is appalling! This must change."
Mr Chidambaram added that government was conscious of this fact and will be addressing this in next five year plan. Said Mr Chidambaram, "Our allocation on education will increase substantially in next five year plan. As much as 19 % of total 11 th plan spending will be in the area of education."
Mr Chidambaram put forth three more building blocks in his address: Infrastructure development, Entrepreneurship and Building an inclusive society.
Talking about entrepreneurship, Mr Chidambaram said, "We should not just focus on large scale entrepreneurship. Grass-root level entrepreneurship that creates small and medium sized companies and creates jobs in rural and semi-urban India is equally important."
Mr Chidambaram's address set the tone for the Day-3 at the TiE Summit which saw several discussions on building the new India through reforms and inclusion. The three day TiE Entrepreneurship Summit began on Dec 11.
