The promise to display the list of CAT 2014 exam centres in the second week of October, 2014 has not yet been fulfilled, although the second week of October 2014 will be over today
Candidate is not aware which are the exam centres in the 3 preferred cities selected by him to take CAT 2014

CAT 2014 conducting IIM categorically declares on CAT 2014 site “List of exam centres will be available on the website www.iimcat.ac.in from second week of October 2014.” While the list of 99 exam cities where CAT 2014 will be conducted, was made available right from August 6, 2014, the first day when CAT 2014 registration site opened, the list of exam cities is nowhere seen till date despite the promise from IIMs. The promise to display the list of CAT 2014 exam centres in the second week of October, 2014 has not yet been fulfilled, although the second week of October 2014 will be over today and aspirants will expect more activities to happen from IIMs for CAT 2014 from tomorrow.

Timely publication is needed

CAT 2014 has not provided the facility of self scheduling of test, choosing the date, session slot, exam centre and exam city. All those who have registered and applied for CAT 2014 were asked to enter the names of 3 preferred exam cities where they would like to take the test. Allotment of test city and test centre is at the mercy of CAT 2014 conducting IIM and testing agency TCS. Candidate is not aware which are the exam centres in the 3 preferred cities selected by him to take CAT 2014. He is in dark about which city, at which centre, on which date, at which time slot, he/she will have to take CAT 2014 exam.

Now another issue is that large and metro cities have long distances to cover and on the top of it names of a few cities have been given in a different form on CAT 2014 site which indicate as if only a particular part of the city will have CAT 2014 exam centres. This is going to create more confusion.

For example CAT 2014 site mentions Greater Noida as exam city. The name of Noida does not exist. Distance between Greater Noida and Noida is very long and sometimes due to unfavourable traffic conditions, it takes 1 to 2 hours to reach Greater Noida from Noida and vice versa. Accordingly the B schools from Noida to Greater Noida have very long distances. If one B school in Noida is situated in Sector-62 and the other in Greater Noida is situated in Knowledge Park-III, the distance between both the places is about 25 Kms.  If a student is coming from some distant village and not aware about this situation, he might end up wasting his time more on travel than focusing on exam centre.  It further creates confusion that there will be no exam centre in Noida as the name of Noida as exam city is not mentioned on CAT 2014 site.

It’s therefore high time for CAT 2014 conducting IIM to publish the list of exam centres with exam cities.  CAT 2014 aspirants have to plan their journey to the exam centre. Those who do not live in the exam city and have to come from some other place will need to have at least some proper directional information before hand.

Why the delay

According to CAT 2014 conducting IIM  “This list will be updated as more exam centres are allocated for CAT 2014. Currently, you may view all the exam cities where CAT exam can be given”.  CAT 2014 site has the list of all the exam cities but there is a delay of 2-3 days in publishing the list of 354+ exam centres in different exam cities where CAT 2014 exam will be conducted across India.

The principal reason behind the delay, it appears is the reopening of CAT 2014 registration process on October 10, 2014. In a single day,  more than 7100 fresh registrations have been reported on October, 10, 2014 for CAT 2014. It might have required rescheduling and re-designating the exam centres in different cities for conducting CAT 2014 exam on November 16 & 22, 2014. It is possible that after the due exercise the list of all the exam centres is displayed on CAT 2014 site in a day or two.

IIM could publish in parts

IIMs in order to fulfill the promise of sharing the list of exam centres in the second week of October 2014, could have published it in parts on the site. None of the exam cities have any exam centre attached to them. While addition of exam centres due to more registrations in CAT 2014 could be displayed on site a bit later, the 354 testing centres finalized so far could have been published in time to keep the promise.

More confusions in offing

The candidates are now confused whether the entire process of CAT 2014 will get delayed due to one or other problem. While the delay in notifying the exam centres on the site and making them available for CAT 2014 aspirants is one problem, other problems could be delay in issue of admit cards, providing practice tests and publishing scoring/equating process, exam pattern, exam day guide.

MBAUniverse.com only hopes that it doesn’t happen. If it happens, CAT 2014 aspirants may face difficulties.
