XIMB organizes `Athlos 2014`; drives `Hudhud` on back foot

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) successfully organized its three day Annual Sports fest– Athlos 6.0 which concluded on October 12, 2014. Despite the deadly threat  of cyclone “Hudhud” driving its way fast towards the eastern coast, the event witnessed great enthusiasm from players of various colleges in true athletic spirit. Dilip Tirkey, former Hockey player and now a Rajya Sabha member shared his message for Athlos 2014 with his inspiring story in the field of hockey and wished good luck to all the students for the event.
 

The event kicked off with a formal launch of the meet, followed by an inspiring event, X-Enable – An event for the differently abled children. X-Enable saw an active participation of 22 differently abled kids of an NGO “Aaina”, accompanied by their parents and teachers. The event comprised lemon race, caroms, and musical chairs.

 

The sport sessions then moved on with an energetic warm up followed by an exciting football match between the students of XIMB and IMI, Bhubaneswar. Both the teams played in great spirit and the XIMB team scored two magnificent goals leading XIMB to a 6-0 win. The football series ended with a final between the XIMB students and the XIMB Alumni which was won by XIMB Alumni team. The volleyball final was also won by the XIMB alumni team. There were several other sports that followed post this. The Badminton Men’s singles, Men’s doubles and Women’s singles matches were played among XIMB, BIMTech and XIMB Alumni. XIMB Alumni spearheaded by Girish won the Men’s Single; XIMB’s Shristi won the Women’s Single, while Digant and Anup led XIMB to victory in the Men’s double title.

 

Amidst all of these energetic and lively games, XQuizzite-the Quizzing committee of XIMB conducted a Sports Quiz which had several challenging rounds and a large number of sport enthusiasts facing them. Samuel Koshi and Mirza Farhan from XIMB won the Quiz. Followed by this were sets of intense games of Table Tennis, Caroms and Chess. All the three indoor games saw great competition among all participants. The event was formally closed with an award ceremony in the presence of Fr. Tony Uvary, Associate Director, XIMB and Fr. V. Arockia Das, Coordinator of Student Affairs, XIMB.

 

The overall spirit of the event remained high in spite of the rough weather with a thundering sky and incessant rains. Adding further to the glory of the event, SPIC MACAY, XIMB chapter organized a Pottery workshop and also opened up a stall for sale of Diyas and lights for Diwali.

 

Athlos is the annual sports fest of XUB and XIMB conducted by the Sports association of XIMB- Sportscom. The event witnesses’ participation from several Colleges across the country for a three day fun filled experience. This year’s event was powered by Telegraph and Hero Xtreme, Sportskeeda was the online media partner, while 97.7 BIG FM was the radio partner.

 

Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) was established in accordance with the Xavier University Act 2013 and was inaugurated on the 7th of July 2014. The university is a self-financing institution of higher learning for imparting professional and technical education.

 

XIMB is an autonomous school of XUB. The B school was founded 27 years back through a social contract between the Odisha Jesuit Society and the Government of Odisha. The institute aims at creating managers with a human face. XUB and XIMB offer their flagship Masters in Business Administration degree in the field of Business Management, Human Resources and Rural Management.

 

XIMB has been awarded A*** grading by CRISIL.  Placement at XIMB saw an average annual compensation of Rs.12.08 lakhs in 2014.
