CAT 2014 'Test Day Video' has brought about number of changes to be followed by the CAT 2014 test takers on the examination day
The Test Day Video has made a good attempt to clarify the modified test day strategy for the CAT 2014 aspirants
CAT 2014 ‘Test Day Video’ has brought about number of changes to be followed by the CAT 2014 test takers on the examination day on November 16 or 22, 2014 as the case may be. The CAT 2014 test day guide although is still awaited, the Test Day Video has made a good attempt to clarify the modified test day strategy for the CAT 2014 aspirants.

With a view to guide and help the candidates, the test day video has tried to cover almost all the important points to be followed by the test takers on the CAT 2014 test day.

The Test day video was launched on October 19, 2014 at 1 PM along with the issuance of Admit Cards. Initially candidates had to login with their CAT 2014 registered ID to view the ‘Test Day Video’, later after some time of its launch, it was placed on CAT 2014 website homepage and can now be viewed by all even without login on the CAT 2014 site.

Below are shared some important key changes as revealed on CAT 2014 test day Video over the past CAT exams.

CAT 2014 Admit Card: Details are short and simple

Admit Cards for earlier CAT 2014 exams which contained lot of  confusing information like CAT Registration Number/Prometric Testing ID; Order Confirmation

Number/Document Number; Exam Number; Test site code. These items of information when required to be used were difficult to remember and sometimes at the test centre candidates had to go through their Admit cards again and again to find out what the invigilator was asking.

On the brighter side CAT 2014 Admit Card has simple and clear information. You do not have too many or confusing numbers to remember. Your CAT 2014 Admit card has only one registration number which is also your registered user id for CAT 2014. Instead of all the clumsy details, following relevant details are found sufficient by the CAT 2014 conducting IIM to incorporate in the Admit Card;  Name, Registration Number, Date of Birth, Birth Category,

PWD/DA,Date/Day of test, Time/Session; Test City and Test Center. They are relevant as well as necessary to verify the facts

Admit Card: Hard copy needs photograph

You are supposed to download and take print of your admit card on A4 size paper. It has been advised by CAT 2014 centre as well as on Test day Video. There is no point to avoid the piece of advice as Admit card is a mandatory requirement to enter the premises of exam centre on the test day.

More important change shared in ‘Test Day Video’ is to affix your recent passport size photograph on the Admit Card. This change is significant as CAT in earlier tests didn’t require any additional photographs. You have to affix the photograph in the given box on the CAT 2014 Admit Card. Please remember without adhering to this instruction you will not be allowed to enter the exam centre on your test day.

Report 120 minutes before the test instead of 90 minutes

CAT 2014 aspirants going to take the test either in morning or afternoon session will have to report 2 hrs before the start of exam at the test centre. While candidates for morning session will have to report at the test centre at 7.30 AM  and those who are scheduled for afternoon session are required to report at 1.00 PM at the CAT 2014 exam centre. There will be 2 sessions each on November 16 and November 22, 2014 of CAT 2014 test. The morning session will be from 9.30 AM to 12.20 PM while afternoon session will be from 3 PM to 5.50PM.  Test day video reveals that late comers will not be allowed to take the test.

Till CAT 2013, CAT test takers were instructed to report one and a half hour before the start of test. Now the candidates will have to add half an hour more and plan their travel schedule accordingly. As the CAT 2014 aspirants are aware CAT in earlier years included 15 minutes’ tutorial before the start of the exam, and despite all this, 90 minutes reporting time prior to exam was considered sufficient time to go through the process of verification and 15 minutes pre-test tutorial.

CAT 2014 will have no such tutorial before the start of the test still the candidates will have to report at the test centre 120 minutes before the examination begins.

Inside the Exam centre

Even the small articles like mobile phone, stationery items, small booklets of any type, eatables will not be allowed to be taken inside the exam centre on the CAT 2014 test day. No storage facility may be available at the CAT 2014 test centre. The test day video has suggested the candidates not to bring any of such items to the test centre.

Earlier CAT examination although asked the CAT test takers to avoid bringing such article but provided some storage facility at the exam centre so that inconvenience is not caused to the candidates. CAT 2014 may not permit any articles inside the test centre for the simple reason that all the test takers will be divided in 4 sessions of CAT 2014 exam going to be conducted in 2 days only. Earlier there were 40 sessions divided in 20 days testing window which witnessed low turnout of candidates in each session whereas all the 1.97 lakh test takers will be divided in 4 sessions only in CAT 2014 and such a huge storage facility at every exam centre may not be possible.

No pencil but pen for rough work

According to the CAT 2014 Test Day Video, you will be provided with a pen and paper for rough work inside the CAT 2014 testing lab. Earlier CAT exams provided the candidates with the pencil, eraser and paper.

You will be required to mention your name, registration number and system number on the said paper.   The rough sheet will have to be returned to the invigilator after the test is over.

Don’t use computer key board; use mouse instead

CAT 2014 Test Day Video advises the candidates to ‘Use the mouse to mark the answer’ and further cautions ‘Do not touch the key board, the system will get locked’. Please remember if your system gets locked it may create anxiety and may disturb the calm with which you have been attempting the questions.  So follow the advice and avoid touching the key board during your CAT 2014 test.
