Now since the result of CMAT Sep 2014 exam for admission session 2015-16 (PGDM batch 2015-17) has been declared by AICTE, candidates are in a fix which B schools they should approach with their scores? Will the top rated B schools appearing in the list of AICTE approved institutions accept their CMAT score cards? These and number of other such questions haunting the minds of CMAT Sep 2014 scorers need clarity on how they can utilize the CMAT scores to get admission in good B schools.
CMAT has no Specific B schools like other exams
Other MBA/PGDM entrance tests like CAT, XAT, IIFT, NMAT, MAH-CET, SNAP, IBSAT have a specific list of B schools who will invariably accept the respective test scores. While all the top B schools like IIMs, FMS Delhi, MDI, IMI, BIMTECH, IMT, SPJIMR, JBIMS, TAPMI and many others are associated to CAT, top B schools like XLRI, XIMB, LIBA, XISS are associated to XAT. But the list of AICTE approved institutions using CMAT scores available on AICTE site may not necessarily accept the CMAT scores.
It is difficult to assume and ascertain that the list is updated for admission session 2015-16. The question whether the list of AICTE approved institutions also means the list of institutions accepting CMAT scores is an important big issue. In fact it is not necessary for the B school to accept CMAT score for admission even if the respective PGDM/MBA programme is approved by AICTE.
Many good B schools like JBIMS, IMI, LBSIM, CIMP, FORE present in AICTE list will not accept CMAT Sep 2014 scores. Many of these B schools whose names appear in AICTE approved list of B schools accepting CMAT scores didn’t either accept CMAT scores earlier also or have now stopped accepting them. The fact that the admission site of these B schools sing a different song to the effect that no metion is there of accepting CMAT scores on their site is an evidence to it.

Similarly the list of Maharashtra B schools is available at the link http://www.aicte-india.org/downloads/MGMT/Maharashtra_MGMT.pdf#toolbar=0 . The list has the names of SPJIMR(Sl no 5-7); JBIMS (Sl no 458) whereas both of these B schools do not accept CMAT scores.
How and where to Utilize the CMAT score card
If some or many of the B schools in the list at any time earlier used to accept CMAT scores, they do not accept the same any longer. It means that AICTE list of such B schools needs to be updated to avoid confusion.
Your high marks in CMAT don’t get you anywhere unless the top rated B schools offer you admission. The utility of CMAT can be proved once you find good B schools offering admission based on CMAT scores.

Find your place and choose the B school
Go through the CMAT Sep 2014 Merit List and find out what’s your standing. If you go for close observation, you will find that there is lesser number of candidates who appeared in CMAT Sep 2014 exam in comparison to CMAT Feb 2014. CMAT scores along with raw scores have awarded percentile scores also in the National Merit List.
If you have a good place in the list, you will stand a good chance in comparison to other exams. For example a CAT or XAT 90+ percentile does not reflect true score. The raw marks might have been very low but CMAT Sep 2014 1st rank holder at 323 out of 400 becomes 100 percentiler when the score of CAT/XAT/CMAT are compared. How you can get edge with CMAT score card
There are many institutes which accept CAT and CMAT both. The problem with CAT score lies in its sectional cut off. A candidate may have high overall CAT percentile but low sectional percentile which may block the admission chances to good B school. But there is no such problem with CMAT as it has only overall score with pre declared place in merit list. You may use your CMAT score card parallel to score cards of other All India Entrance exams.
Keep the Required documents ready
Hard copies of required documents should be kept ready for second stage of admission round. You will need the originals as well as copies of your marks sheets, certificates from 10th standard to the highest degree that you have mentioned in your form. Special or reserved category(DA/SC/ST) certificates; id proof; address proof; experience certificate, if you a working professional; certificates of extracurricular activities; Domicile proof; Date of Birth certificate and any other certificate and photographs required by the particular University or the institute during final admission round should be kept in a file so that you do not forget the same when you go to convert the call.
