The candidates should relax now and must not carry with them the hangover of what happened in CAT 2014

Fully geared up to take the IIFT 2014 entrance test on Nov 23, 2014 the candidates should relax now and must not carry with them the hangover of what happened in CAT 2014. You can take a sigh of relief and may stick to your original travel plan to reach the IIFT test centre after CAT 2014 is over.

CAT Centre 2014 has already conducted the 3 sessions of CAT 2014 without any technical problems and on time. There has not been any delay in any session on Nov 16 as well as Nov 22, 2014 of CAT 2014. Now you can have the comfort of sticking to your original travel plan. You may relax as you will have around 8-10 hours before the IIFT entrance test with you during which you can formulate your ‘a night before IIFT 2014’ strategy.

With no facility provided to the CAT 2014 test takers to edit and change the exam slot and day according to their convenience, IIFT aspirants were worried whether the second day second slot CAT 2014 would be over without any technical glitches at the scheduled time on Nov 22, 2014.  Number of IIFT 2014 entrance test takers have to rush to other cities immediately after their CAT 2014 test is over to take the IIFT exam in the morning on November 23, 2014 and as such their worry how to reach at the test centre on time is fairly genuine.

IIFT 2014 entrance test for admission to MBA(IB) programme in IIFT Delhi and Kolkata will be held in the paper pen mode on Sunday Nov 23, 2014 in a single session across the country. It will be a 2 hours MCQ test from 10.00 A.M. to 12.00 Noon. The entrance test will be conducted in 20 cities across India.

Candidates appearing both in IIFT and CAT 2014 on consecutive days have been apprehensive of delay in conduct of CAT 2014 due to some technical or other problem that could disrupt their travel plan to reach the IIFT test centre in other city sometime in night and at least have some sleep before reporting at IIFT 2014 test centre. However all such worries are put to rest now.

A night before IIFT 2014 entrance test: To do list

Only a night remains between you and your IIFT 2014 exam that begins at 10 AM tomorrow on November 23, 2014. You are supposed to report at the test centre an hour before the testing time with all the required documents. You are not supposed to get engaged in any sort of hectic activity physical or mental tonight after your CAT exam is over as it could leave you with fatigue or tired mental condition. Remember IIFT 2014 is a different test involving 2 way mental exercise- reading the question and marking the answers on OMR sheet.
You will invest 2 hours inside the testing room without break. It needs a refreshed and cool mind needed to attempt the tricky IIFT 2014 which is going to place 120-130 questions before you, making you run a mini-marathon without breaks.

Make sure that you arrange the required documents to be carried to the test centre without fail. Relax in the night and have a good night sleep with no hangovers. Rest assured if you are well prepared, you can crack it. With this thought in mind, be prepared to enjoy the sweet dreams and go to sleep a bit early so that full undisturbed sleep overpowers you.

Get up absolutely fresh early in the morning, get ready and proceed to the IIFT 2014 exam centre with the mandatory documents of Admit card and Photo ID.

If you are carrying any other small articles, like watch, mobile phone, stationery of any type;  they will be kept and stored away from the testing room in small plastic bags. It is advisable not to carry bags or valuables to the testing centres.

Inside the IIFT Testing Room

Prof S K Agarwal Expert and mentor on IIFT preparation shares the testing room strategy to tackle the IIFT exam and score high. Your preparation for CAT 2014 must have well prepared you for IIFT 2014 as well. While the preparation on Quant, DI, LR and Verbal Ability is more or less same as same topics are covered in both the exams, it is the General Awareness that needs extra time which you have already gone through, it is assumed.

Time management

Avoid getting stuck on one question and move to other one if question is found beyond the reach or lengthy.  IIFT entrance has more number of questions (from 115 to 130) in comparison to CAT where you have 100 questions to attempt. Time allotted is also less than the CAT; 120 minutes as compared to 170 minutes in CAT. Hence, the time management becomes a crucial factor in IIFT entrance test as there is approximately one minute per question to answer.

Avoid attracting penalty

It is no use attempting the questions, answers to which may be wrong or doubtful. The examination has one fourth negative marking and even a fraction of slip in percentile is very important. Another important feature about this test is the varying marking system in the range of 0.5 to 1. The aspirants can expect to get through if they score 45 to 50 percent. It is strongly advised not to go for any doubtful questions.

Mark answers cautiously

IIFT entrance test is a paper pen test; You are required to darken the circle. Do not tear the OMR sheet with pointed darkening style nor leave it too light to detect the answer option. Darken the circle in appropriate way.

Maximise attempts

Please avoid sticking to one section in IIFT entrance in the initial attempts. IIFT exam is divided in four sections English comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation, General Awareness. You should begin with the right type of questions from one section and should move to other sections in your first 1-2 attempts.

Please note that sectional cut off is also applicable in this examination.  You may be expert in one section but getting high in one section and not qualifying in another will not help.

Remain calm

Maintain your cool if the examination is too difficult or lengthy, it will go for lower cut off and vice-versa.

Read the question carefully

Jumping to answer options before reading and understanding the questions is not good enough. Sometimes answer options are very close ones and in the enthusiasm, aspirants mark the wrong answer options despite knowing the right answer. So, Read all the options carefully before going to darken the circle.

Nothing to study a night before IIFT

Most of the candidates try to read and practice more mocks etc. on the day before their examination, thinking it will help more.  However, in view of the experts it sometimes becomes detrimental to your confidence level. Prof. S.K. Agarwal, expert in IIFT preparation suggests the candidates to keep them fresh and avoid any hard hitting practice sessions.

The best journey plan is to find out the fastest means of conveyance to reach the destination. For example if your CAT centre is in Jaipur and IIFT centre is in Delhi, catch the Volvo bus service from Jaipur immediately after the CAT 2014 exam is over and reach Delhi by 10-11 PM. Take a good night sleep and be ready in the morning for the IIFT entrance.
