Only a good performance in written exams like Common Admission Test (CAT) is not sufficient to win the battle to reach at prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) or other top B-schools.

Now it is the turn of Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD & PI). GD & PI is only few weeks away. Focusing on the next stage for CAT takers, MBAUniverse.com Aspirant Zone presents a series of articles offering guidance for aspirants. We invited experts from leading test prep institutes to share their advice with MBAUniverse.com for mastering GD & PI round.

The first article in this GD & PI series is by Mr Gejo Srinivasan, Head MBA Product, IMS Learning Resources, India's leading MBA test-prep Company. Mr Srinivasan is the MBA Product Head at IMS Learning Resources Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai. He did his B.Tech (Chem Eng.) from IIT Madras and his PGDM from IIM Calcutta. He has been mentoring students for more than 8 years.

While giving tips on GD, Mr Srinivasan says, "Be relevant to the topic given and give perspectives in the solution. That is, don't talk about NYSE when asked the topic is BSE – but talk about how BSE has affected telecom companies' fortunes alongside its economic impacts".

On the matter of PI, Mr Srinivasan suggests, "Never give gyaan to the interviewer – they are people who have already 'arrived' in life. You may feel you are gyaan guru after reading a couple of reports but that's not the point – finally, understand that they are the decision makers. You'd hate it too if someone came out of the blue and gyaaned you on management".
