For the first time since 2009, a girl candidate includes the group of 16 candidates who have scored 100 percentile in CAT 2014 exam held on Nov 16 and 22, 2014 for admission to premier B schools like IIMs, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, IMI, IMT, FORE, NITIE, TAPMI. This is also the first time during past many years that so many candidates have scored 100 percentile in the prestigious MBA/PGDM entrance CAT exam. IIMs have in recent years been trying to make their campuses more inclusive”.
More 100 percentilers despite different CAT 2014
CAT 2014 has produced twice the number of 100 percentilers in comparison to CAT 2013 in which 8 candidates scored 100 percentile. There are 16 hundred percentiles in CAT 2014. The achievement is despite the fact that there were number of changes introduced in conduct of CAT 2014 exam. Not only the number of questions was increased but also the time available to solve per question was reduced from 2.32 minutes to 1.7 minutes. Candidates were allowed to move freely between one section to the other section and according to a number of candidates who took CAT 2014 they forgot to notice the timer ticking while remaining involved in one section.
Despite all the odds, surprises and changes CAT 2014 has come out with more number of 100 percentilers with no technical issues reported.
Glorious example of gender diversity
The group of these 16 hundred percentilers includes the lone girl Neha Manglik who is from Delhi and is a chemical engineering student of BITS Pilani. A few other belong to IITs and other top rated engineering institutes also. In the history of CAT since 2009 this is the first time that a girl candidate has scored 100 percentile. This is more significant since the IIMs and other top rated B schools in the country award weightage to gender diversity in their admission criteria. Sharing the achievement and defining the IIMs admission policy Dr Rohit Kapoor said “We need women leaders. IIMs have in recent years been trying to make their campuses more inclusive”.
CAT 2014 result: No goof up
CAT 2014 result was declared around 5 PM on Dec 27, 2014 on CAT 2014 website. The candidates who could login immediately after declaration of CAT 2014 result were able to view and download their score cards. After sometime, due to heavy rush the CAT 2014 site got very slow and number of candidates approached MBAUniverse.com for the advisory ‘how to get their score card instantly’. The CAT 2014 site however, began to function well after some time.
There was no crashing of site reported either by the CAT Centre 2014 or by the candidates despite the heavy rush of candidates visiting the site for CAT 2014 result. Dr Rohit Kapoor CAT 2014 convener earlier also confirmed that zero error in the processing of CAT 2014 result was ensured and accordingly it was also ensured that that no technical glitches should come up while downloading the CAT 2014 score card.
Ensuring 100% transparency delayed the result
CAT 2014 result was expected in the 3rd week of December 2014. Since the final checks and processes continued to ensure an error free and transparent result, the result date announcement was shifted from the 3rd week to 4th week of December 2014. Dr Rohit Kapoor, CAT 2014 convener and faculty IIM Indore had shared on Dec 20 that ‘CAT 2014 result will be declared only after ensuring the complete transparency, equity and fairness in the process’. December 27 as the date for declaration of CAT 2014 result was announced in the evening on Dec 22, 2014 after the process of final checks on score normalization was over.
CAT 2014 result went through multiple final checks on score equating and normalization process before final declaration. CAT Centre 2014 took no chances on declaration of CAT 2014 result that could raise any question on the transparency and fairness on score normalization process.
Glitch free result
Speaking to MBAUniverse.com CAT 2014 convener Dr Rohit Kapoor shared to lay more emphasis on ensuring to arrive at the glitch free and transparent CAT 2014 result and said “We will announce the exact date of declaration of CAT 2014 result on Dec 22 once we are through the process ensuring transparency and fairness”.
Early Result: Early PI round
Dr Rohit Kapoor, CAT 2014 Convenor is positive enough on early conduct of final admission round by the IIMs after early shortlisting of candidates and says “We look forward to the next phases of the admission process, helping candidates realise their education goals with the IIMs.”
Declaration of CAT 2014 result on Dec 27 will have positive impact on the process of next stage of MBA/PGDM admission 2015 Personal Interview round in IIMs and other top rated B schools like FMS, SPJIMR, MDI, IMI, IMT, FORE, BIMTECH, JBIMS, TAPMI, NITIE.
It will help the B schools to shortlist the candidates for admission round in the very first week of January 2015 and will enable them to start the PI process in January 2015 itself. The B schools can offer final admissions in the month of February-March 2015 and begin the session at the earliest without lingering on the same till July 2015.
