CAT 2014 result has come out strengthening the belief again that CAT is dominated by engineers from top rated engineering colleges like IITs. At least CAT 2014 result goes to prove it again. 5 students from IIT Kanpur and IIT Bombay are among the 16 candidates scoring 100 percentile in CAT 2014, while one girl candidate of BITS Pilani has first time opened woman empowerment account in CAT 2014 with 100 percentile since 2009.

Result of Common Admission Test (CAT) 2014, an entrance exam for admission 2015 to India's premier IIMs and other top rated B-schools like FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, NITIE, IMI, IMT, BIMTECH, TAPMI, FORE was declared around 5 PM on Dec 27, 2014 deciding the fate of 1.70 lakh CAT 2014 test takers. The declared CAT 2014 result had 16 toppers with 100 percentile out of them only 1 is the girl candidate.

3 from IIT Bombay

3 out of 16 CAT 2014 toppers with 100 percentile are the students from IIT Bombay. One of the candidates Vibhu Gupta is the final year student of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay.  Vibhu, a resident of Kandivli Bombay scored 100 percentile in his maiden attempt to CAT 2014. Vibhu has not taken any regular coaching but preferred going for more and more mock tests to practice well and analyse after each mock to plug his weak areas before CAT 2014 exam.

In view of Vibhu “The paper this year was relatively simple and with the new pattern I could attempt more questions." Vibhu aims to convert the call at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

Another CAT 2014 topper with 100 percentile is Anurag Reddy. Anurag is also the final year student in electrical engineering at IIT-Bombay. Anurag is from Nalgonda near Hyderabad (Telangana now). He also hopes to get admission at IIM-A with specialization in Finance.

The reason behind choosing Finance as the most preferred specialization area is that he was introduced to economics and finance When he joined IIT Bombay. This has inculcated his interest in Finance.

Anurag has a great interest and aptitude for mathematics which has been his strong domain since child hood. It helped him crack CAT 2014 with 100 percentile. In regard to his preparation for first section in CAT 2014 comprising Quantitative Ability and Data interpretation questions, Anurag says  "I would solve a lot of mathematics and aptitude problems since I was young and with this practice I did not have to prepare for mathematics”.

Other 100 percentiler in CAT 2014 from IIT Bombay is Harshveer Jain. Harshveer has passed out of IIT Bombay in April 2014 with graduation degree in Engineering Physics. Harshveer belongs to Indore but would like to pursue PGDM from IIM Calcutta or Ahmedabad despite the fact he has IIM Indore in his hometown.

Harshveer accepted job offer immediately after graduation from IIT Bombay. He managed well between his work and CAT 2014 preparation. As a result he scored 100 percentile in CAT 2014. He devoted 3 hours daily to his studies and preparing for CAT 2014. In his view ‘Preparing for the CAT did not mean long hours of theory. I spent the weekends solving practice tests and looking at the solutions to know how to be able to do my best in the three hours".

2 toppers contributed by IIT Kanpur

IIT Kanpur has also contributed to share 2 CAT 2014 toppers with 100 percentile. One of them is Pranjul Gupta, a student of 4th year in Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. It was the first attempt for Pranjul to appear in CAT 2014 in which he scored the highest percentile one can hope for.  Pranjul belongs to Lucknow and aims to convert his call to IIM Ahmedabad.  Pranjul has already been placed at Snapdeal in the process of IIT Kanpur campus placement. He  comes from  a middle class family inspiring him with determination to struggle and achieve. His father runs a medical store while his mother is a house maker.

Another topper with 100 percentile in CAT 2014 from IIT Kanpur is Vishesh Patni. Vishesh is studying in MSc Physics from IIT Kanpur. Taking CAT 2014 was also his first attempt in which he hit the jackpot.  Vishesh is more inclined to specialization in Finance and as such prefers to pursue PGDM from IIM Calcutta. Sharing his vision for future he says “I would like to set up my own venture in the financial space”.  As regards his line of preparation for CAT 2014 he didn’t cram his head but was consistent in his studies. He regularly attended the classes and took tests and thinks this should be the preparation mantra for CAT.

Patni belongs to a family of intellectuals. His father is a professor and his mother is an educated housewife. His sister is pursuing B. Arch from Pune.

The only 100 percentiler girl is from BITS Pilani

For the first time since 2009, a girl candidate from BITS Pilani includes the group of 16 candidates who have scored 100 percentile in CAT 2014. Sharing the achievement with MBAUniverse.com Dr Rohit Kapoor, Convener CAT 2014 said “There are 16 hundred percentilers that includes a girl candidate. We need women leaders. IIMs have in recent years been trying to make their campuses more inclusive”.

The only girl 100 percentiler in CAT 2014 Neha Manglik is from Delhi and is a final year chemical engineering student of BITS Pilani. In the history of CAT since 2009 this is the first time that a girl candidate has scored 100 percentile. This is more significant since the IIMs and other top rated B schools in the country award weightage to gender diversity in their admission criteria.

Neha has been a consistent performer in her studies. She devoted good volume of time and energy to prepare for CAT 2014. She has gone through the classroom coaching and a lot of mock tests. Apart from this she also attended shortcut workshops.  She heads the poetry club at BITS Pilani and is a good writer. The skill will be of great help to her in Written Ability Test at final admission round 2015 at IIMs.

Neha is the daughter of Jayant Manglik, president of Religare Securities. She has been a consistent achiever and was ranked 5th in the CMAT exam held earlier this year.

With the early declaration of CAT 2014 result, it is expected that next stage of admission round will be completed faster for admission 2015 as compared to post CAT scenario in earlier years. According to Dr Rohit Kapoor, CAT 2014 Convenor “We look forward to the next phases of the admission process, helping candidates realise their education goals with the IIMs.”
