The shortlist from FMS Delhi despite early declaration of CAT 2014 result is still awaited.
Candidates have started raising queries on delay in declaration of FMS shortlist and are also afraid of losing admission opportunity in 2015 in the high ROI B-school

FMS Delhi, one of the most preferred B schools in the country known for the high ROI programmes is yet to declare the shortlist of candidates for admission 2015. While most of the older IIMs, MDI and other top rated B schools have declared their shortlists for personal Interview round, the shortlist from FMS Delhi despite early declaration of CAT 2014 result is still awaited.

Candidates have started raising queries on delay in declaration of FMS shortlist and are also afraid of losing admission opportunity in 2015 in the high ROI B-school due to this delay. In 2014 also, there was inordinate delay in declaration of FMS shortlist which was declared when most of the IIMs and other highly ranked B schools completed their admission process.

While most of the top rated B schools have announced their tentative dates of beginning next phase of admission process to their flagship MBA/PGDM programmes 2015-17, the delay in declaration of shortlist by FMS is creating more confusion among the MBA aspirants.

More candidates with high percentile waiting

The different shortlisting criteria at FMS has kindled hope among the MBA aspirants to be shortlisted by this top rated B school. While many of them have not found their names in IIMs’ short lists, they are waiting for the shortlist of FMS.

FMS to shortlist on high overall percentile

In a deviation from earlier CAT exams, CAT 2014 has produced more candidates with high overall but uneven sectional percentiles. These candidates despite scoring percentile as high as 98-99 have not been shortlisted by the IIMs as the sectional cut off is also applicable with them for shortlisting the candidates for next phase of admission round. However the shortlisting criteria at FMS is to consider over all high CAT 2014 percentile.

This is the major difference in shortlisting criteria between IIMs and FMS. While IIMs are more concerned on high balanced sectional as well as overall percentile, the major consideration at FMS is overall percentile. The candidates who were not shortlisted by IIMs despite scoring overall percentile of 98-99 in admission 2014, found a place in FMS shortlist in admission session 2014-15.

FMS first stage Shortlist: No weightage to other factors

Academic Profile

In the first stage shortlist FMS doesn’t award weightage to academic profile or diversity in shortlisting the candidates while IIMs give weightage for good academic profile of a candidate and award marks for a better academic record in a range of 20 to 30 on a scale of 100 in shortlisting the candidates for PI round. In the first stage shortlist FMS has the simple and straight calculation method to shortlist the candidates i.e. Higher the percentile more are the chances to get shortlisted in FMS.

Weightage to academic profile at FMS is awarded in the final admission round and the merit list is drawn after taking into account the academic profile of the candidates before making final admission offer.

Work experience

Similarly, the weightage for work experience and gender diversity will be awarded in the GDPI round and not at the first stage of shortlisting. The freshers, would-be graduates and working executives have equal chance of being shortlisted for PI round. Girl candidates also do not get any weightage in the first stage shortlisting.

Delay may cause damage

Holding the reputation of declaring the shortlist at the earliest, delay in declaration of shortlist at FMS Delhi is causing anxiety among the MBA aspirants who wish to pursue MBA from FMS Delhi. The aspirants are now searching various sites to know when FMS would be declaring the shortlist.

FMS is supposed to shortlist around 2000+ candidates for next phase of interview round for an intake of 200+ students in MBA full time programme in 2015. Since neither the shortlist is declared nor the date for the same is shared, candidates are worried whether there would be as long a delay as happened in 2014.
