CMAT Feb 2015 will provide a good opportunity for the candidates who have scored less in CAT 2014 or do not expect very high scores in XAT 2015 to further improve their scores
It is no use exploring admission opportunity with very low CAT 2014 or XAT 2015 scores, better bet will be to prepare and score high in CMAT to get a better B school of your choice.

AICTE is going to conduct the national level entrance test CMAT 2015 (second test) for admission to various PGDM/MBA programmes for the batch 2015-17 across the country from February 19 to 22, 2015. CMAT Feb 2015 will provide a good opportunity for the candidates who have scored less in CAT 2014 or do not expect very high scores in XAT 2015 to further improve their scores and explore admission opportunity in PGDM/MBA programmes in 2015.

In fact All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will conduct this second National Level Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) 2015 to select suitable students for admission in management programmes for academic year 2015-16.

400+ B schools  to accept CMAT scores

AICTE, by conducting 2 CMAT exams in a year provides the candidates two opportunities to appear in CMAT and improve their scores. The first CMAT was conducted in September, 2014 from Sep 25 to 28, 2014 while the Second CMAT 2015 would be from Feb 19 to 22, 2015. The better of two scores in both the CMAT exams will be taken into account for admission for PGDM/MBA batch 2015-17.

CMAT is one of the largest management entrance tests after CAT and XAT. Around 1 lakh candidates register and appear in this exam to explore admission opportunities in 400+ B schools across the country. Except IIMs, XLRI and a few other top rated B schools, scores of CMAT Feb 2015 will be accepted by number of Management Institutes offering PGDM/MBA programmes in 2015. Good marks in CMAT Feb 2015 exam will offer participants ample scope to get admitted into some of the highly ranked university and private B schools in the country.

Online exam: Not so tough

Going by the past trend of CMAT exams, you may not find CMAT as difficult as CAT or XAT. The previous exam analysis reveals that with the same level of preparation that you did for CAT 2014 or XAT 2015, you can score high percentage of marks in CMAT Feb 2015 than what you scored in CAT or XAT.

CMAT is an online test. The exam is divided in 4 sections with equal number of questions carrying equal weightage. In all there are 100 questions with 25 questions in each of the 4 sections. The 4 sections are  Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation; English Language comprehension; General Awareness; Logical Reasoning.

Unlike XLRI-XAT 2015 which doesn’t count General Awareness in calculation of percentile and doesn’t form the criteria of shortlisting the candidates for final admission round, General Awareness in CMAT is as important as other sections and forms a key component to form the merit list.  In fact GK can be prepared with a regular reading of newspapers, periodicals, books, watching TV news without acquiring any special skill. The 25 questions can place you high on the merit list even if you begin now.

Questions on Quant, data interpretation, English Language and Logical reasoning sections in CMAT are not so difficult. The CMAT exam is rated as moderate one. Study and practice of Arithmatic, Algebra, Geometry concepts and a good amount of practice can enable you to score high in CMAT. Questions on English language comprehension are short and based on simple grammatical concepts, parajumbles are very short and easy, questions on RC passages are not as difficult as in CAT. The concepts Logical reasoning can be learnt fast and with a little practice can be solved accurately.

200 out of 400: Expect good B school

One question in CMAT carries a score of maximum 4 marks. There are 100 questions and out of maximum score of 400, candidates can expect admission in top rated B schools with a score in a range of 200 to 240.

CMAT score: parallel to other scores

There are many institutes which accept both CAT and CMAT scores.  The score can be used across India in hundreds of the B schools accepting CMAT scores. You may use your CMAT score card parallel to score cards of other All India Entrance  tests.

Unique feature with CMAT is that your raw score will be considered for the admission. In case any B school or state Government controlled university has the system of converting raw score to percentile, they will be at par with other All India tests like CAT/XAT.

Prepare the list of preferred B schools

Candidates, before appearing in the test, should prepare a list of B schools in order of preference where they wish to apply and would like to seek admission. At this time you are not aware what score you will be getting.  After taking the exam and after declaration of CMAT Feb 2015 result in March,  you should revisit and practically revise the priority list of management institutes where your candidature could be considered.

Check: B schools with open admissions

Now comes the most important part. You may have a good score, can go across India but if the admission process in the particular B school is over what you can do except to find out which B schools have their admission process still open.  If you have already applied with the first CMAT scores, update the B school with your improved scores after declaration of result.

Most of the B schools in Maharashtra except JBIMS, Mumbai will accept the CMAT scores. The admission will also be there through DTE conducted CAP round.  It is advisable to register for MAHCET 2015 also, when the registration for the same opens.

Take CMAT why to bet on low CAT/XAT scores

It is no use exploring admission opportunity with very low CAT 2014 or XAT 2015 scores, better bet  will be to prepare and score high in CMAT to get a better B school of your choice.
