Declaration of XAT 2015 result well ahead of pre announced date has no doubt helped the candidates to search more PGDM/MBA admission opportunities in 2015. XAT 2015 result has brought with it number of queries from XAT 2015 takers who expected much higher percentile overall as well as sectional in XAT 2015 than what they have scored.

XAT 2015 result was declared in the early morning on January 23 while the result as per the XAT 2015 notification was proposed to be declared on Jan 31, 2015. The early declaration of XAT 2015 result will surely help thousands of candidates who have improved their scores over CAT 2014 and wish to seek admission in various B schools on the basis of their XAT 2015 score cards.

Calculation of scores: XAT 2015 Answer keys formed the ground

For the first time in the history of XAT, candidates who appeared in XAT 2015 have got the answer keys for all the sets of question papers with due explanation. It has been rated as a very good move on the part of XLRI showing full transparency to the examination.

Candidates could now very well cross check the answers they marked on the OMR sheet in accordance with the set of question paper available with them. They have also been able to calculate the nearly accurate scores as XAT 2015 has awarded equal weightage of 1 mark each to the multiple choice questions (MCQs) type. Each set of XAT 2015 question paper had 84 MCQs divided in 3 sections. The percentile scores have been calculated on the basis of answers to these 84 questions.

XAT takers’ woes: Result didn’t match the self-calculation

For thousands of candidates who took XAT 2015, the self percentile calculation for XAT 2015 bore no fruit as their actual percentile score is much less than what they calculated and expected.

The candidates are now apprehensive of some mismatch in the calculation formula of percentile and have been raising queries on such discrepancies post XAT 2015 result declaration. Now they need the formula according to which their percentile has been calculated.

XAT 2015: Queries lying on home page

On the upper right hand corner of XAT 2015 home page, there is heading ‘Discussion’. Many candidates immediately after declaration of XAT 2015 result in the morning on Jan 23, 2015 have started raising the queries and have also posted about the expected date by which they could get the response from XAT Centre 2015.

The discrepancy in award of percentile in one or other section is now haunting the minds of XAT 2015 takers.  This is despite the fact that XAT 2015 percentile calculation formula has awarded only positive percentiles. According to Prof Munish Thakur, XAT 2015 convener “All students got positive percentiles (There is no possibility of negative percentile)”

Queries need response

These queries are not out of place and need quick response since despite other transparent practices in XAT 2015, the transparency on calculation of percentile needs due clarification to satisfy the haunting queries of the candidates.

One of the XAT 2015 takers has written to XAT Centre 2015 in the discussion column “Respected Sir I wanted to bring to your notice that according to the official answer key for Decision Making I was getting a score of 5.75 though I had many apprehensions about the answers and I got 54 percentile whereas I read somewhere that someone has got 92 percentile at 8.5. I just wanted to know whether such a drastic transition of percentile is possible with such a small difference and can I get the exact score for a clearer picture of my performance as I have missed my dream college only because of my DM score.  Kindly help me”

Another candidate writes “Got an overall score of 17.5 (VA-7; DM-8.5; QA-2) according to the XAT 2015 answer key. What percentile would it translate to? I have got an overall percentile of 73 according to score card. But I feel my Verbal percentile is low for the score”.

Look at this query that adds fuel to fire “According to the answer key provided by XAT, my marks in Decision Making section are 9.5 but my percentile in the score card is 66.51”

Worried Candidates request the formula

These candidates are worried on the percentile calculation formula in XAT 2015. Going by their respective queries we find that one candidate has scored 92 percentile after scoring 8.5 in Decision Making while another candidate has scored only 66.51 percentile after scoring 9.5 marks in Decision Making.

In case there is some flaw in XAT 2015 percentile calculation, let it be corrected at once. If not let the formula of percentile calculation for XAT 2015 be shared on XAT 2015 site for the benefit of candidates and to avoid recurrence of such queries, post XAT 2015 result declaration.
