"The `total percentile` need not be `average of the three percentiles`. In fact, it would rarely be average of the three percentiles" XLRI on XAT 2015 result

Thousands of queries have been raised by the candidates regarding the XAT 2015 percentile calculation process and award of the scores in the exam. XLRI for the first time has not only made the XAT as the most transparent but has also chosen to respond to the queries of such candidates who were not satisfied with their score card.

This is despite the fact that apart from the questions booklet of relevant series in hand, access was provided to XAT 2015 takers to answer keys and answer sheet of XAT 2015 exam. This could be rated as highest example of transparency in the exam and the declaration of its result.

One doesn’t find such a gesture in the MBA entrance examination that the candidate is able to view his answer sheet apart from the answer keys to arrive at the exact scores that he/she has been awarded. But this has been made a reality by XLRI to make XAT 2015 as transparent as possible although from XAT 2016, the transparency of XAT 2015 may become a precedent and possibly some other national level MBA entrance exams could also follow suit to avoid any controversy.

Queries responded

MBAUniverse.com conveyed these queries of the XAT 2015 takers to XLRI requesting the XAT 2015 conducting B school to quickly respond to them. Post the request XLRI has responded to the various queries of XAT 2015 takers.

In the 60 years’ history of conducting XAT, XLRI has taken every care to keep XAT 2015 absolutely transparent. It is further proved as all such queries of the XAT 2015 takers have been taken into consideration and have been responded.

All the queries collated

According to XLRI “Subsequently to the announcement of XAT 2015 results, we received a lot of queries regarding wrong XAT percentiles and low scores. After collating the mails, we could broadly categorize all concerns/ complaints into three

Broad categorization of Queries

Query 1. “My Total percentile is not average of the percentile in the three sections”.
Query 2. “My score should have been higher, according to official key”.
Query 3. “Another candidate with same score got higher percentile.”

XLRI responds

Responding to all such queries XLRI shares “Our response to these complaints is as follows:

Response to Query category 1. The “total percentile” need not be “average of the three percentiles”. In fact, it would rarely be average of the three percentiles. Any good student can figure it out.

Response to Query category 2. Candidates can verify the scores with official key after accessing the scanned copies of the OMRs. Candidates need to log in through their XATID to access the scanned OMRs.

Modification in score: Possibility of revision

The response to 3rd category of query gives the assurance that your percentile can be revised upwards.

Response to Query category 3. It should not happen. However, if you have received lower percentile for the same score with reference to other candidate, please write back to us at: [email protected]. Please mention your XATID and XATID of the other candidate, one who has same score but higher percentile. If the complaint is found to be legitimate, the percentile / percentage would be modified.

With the publication of OMR sheets, all the candidates can very well verify their scores. This is the first of its kind move to justify the calculation of section wise as well as overall percentile calculation in XAT 2015.

Number of candidates who had lodged their grievances in regard to their fear of anticipating some flaw in XAT 2015 result declaration should have been satisfied with the responses from XLRI..
